Samsung 850 EVO SSD Coming Soon

Samsung and the world's second solid-state drive based on 3D vertical-NAND flash technology, the 850 EVO, was spotted on marketing material, ahead of its launch. Closely trailing the company's flagship 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s drive, the 850 Pro, the 850 EVO will have lower price per GB. The drive will be based on Samsung's 3-bit (TLC) 3D V-NAND chips, and Samsung's updated triple-core processor. Given how Samsung is offering a stunning 10-year warranty with the 850 Pro, this drive could come with a similar warranty. The 850 Pro, for example, is rated with a TBW ceiling of 150 TB, double that of its predecessor.

Green House Unveils New, Phison-Powered Solid State Drive

Japanese company Green House today announced a new, NAND-based storage solution, the GH-SSD32C Series solid state drive. Seen below, the upcoming SSD features a 2.5-inch form factor, MLC NAND Flash memory, a Phison PS3108-S8 controller, 256 MB or 512 MB of cache (256 MB for te 60 GB and 120 GB models, 512 MB for the 240 GB and 480 GB drives), and SATA 6.0 Gbps connectivity. Speed wise, the drives are said to deliver up to 520 MB/s when reading and 100/210/470/500 MB/s while writing for the 60/120/240/480 GB capacities.

The GH-SSD32C drives are backed by a three-year warranty and are set to become available around mid-September.

Apacer Rolls Out Two M.2 2242 SSDs

Since the PCIe SSD was adopted by Apple as a standard accessory in MacBook Air in 2013, its excellent flash storage performance featuring high-speed transmission has led the competition to follow, including the fully PCIe SSD-supported Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating system and the new generation Intel CPU chip. According to a survey conducted by the global market research firm TrendForce, the transmission speed of PCIe G2 (PCIe Generation 2.0) surpassed that of SATA III SSD in 2014. Coming in 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacities, this SSD features a 2.5-inch form factor (7 mm height), a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a Barefoot 3 M10 controller, and Toshiba-made 19 nm MLC NAND Flash memory chips.

The ARC 100 drivers are capable of sequential read speeds of 490 MB/s and reach 430 MB/s (400 MB/s for the 120 GB model) while writing. The 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB can be found priced at $74.99, $119.99 and $239.99, respectively, but they are out of stock.
