ATP Introduces New Industrial Grade Horizontal and Vertical SATA DOM

ATP, the leading manufacturer of embedded Flash, ruggedized SSD and DRAM modules, upgraded its product lines of the Horizontal and Vertical SATA DOM product series with a few refined features targeting networking, industrial automation/equipment, gaming, POS and digital signage markets. Due to diminishing supplies in the market for small NAND Flash form factors, the renewal of this product series has come at a good time. The ATP SLC based Horizontal and Vertical SATA DOM product series are available in densities ranging from 2G to 16GB and are available for sampling immediately.

The new ATP SATA DOM product series come with the latest development of the hardware based PowerProtector, which provides more coverage of data protection in the event of a sudden power outage. The latest generation of PowerProtector provides more power for the controller to flush the data once a power outage is detected, temporarily storing in the SRAM and DRAM along the data path in a NAND Flash product, and into the flash ICs. This means the PowerProtector offers more protection for the data integrity in the case of a sudden loss of power. Moreover, the SLC based products have more than twenty times program/erase life cycles over other MLC Flash based NAND Flash products on the market, demonstrating extended product usage life and robustness to meet the industrial challenges.

Unigen Announces M.2 SSDs

Unigen Corporation has announced SLC or MLC NAND Flash based M.2 SATA III SSDs in densities ranging from 16 GB - 256 GB. Measuring 22 mm 'W' x 80 mm 'H' these small form factor flash modules are used for high reliability storage of critical code and data, in space-constrained embedded, industrial, gaming and networking applications. This New Generation Form Factor (NGFF) SSD allows for scalability with 110 mm 'H' modules, consistent with emerging trends.

TDK Launches SNG4A Series Solid State Drives With M.2 Form Factor

TDK Corporation announced today the successful development of the SNG4A series of serial ATA II compatible industrial solid state drives. The new NAND flash memory modules enable storage capacities of up to 64 GB with SLC type NAND flash memory. Measuring only approx. 22 x 42 mm, the modules support use in M.2 slots and will be available from August 2014.

The new M.2 form factor is currently garnering a lot of attention and is expected to become the dominant standard for consumer applications. Furthermore, the adoption of M.2 for industrial applications will most likely also be promoted heavily. TDK Introduces the SHG4A Series Half Slim Type SSDs

TDK Corporation announced today the launch in November 2013 of the SHG4A series of half slim type solid state drive (SSD) modules for industrial applications. The new NAND flash memory modules support the serial ATA II standard and enable storage capacities of up to 128 GB also with SLC type NAND flash memory. Measuring only approx. 54 x 40 mm, the modules are about one half the size of a 1.8-inch hard disk drive (HDD).

The SHG4A series of half slim type industrial SSDs employs the standard SATA connector also used for 2.5 inch type SSDs, which eliminates the need for a special connector at the customer's host side. The GBDriver power interruption tolerance algorithm which has won high acclaim especially among industrial users, and an integrated power supply protection circuit are standard features, making this compact SATA flash drive resistant against power supply problems, a highly desirable characteristic for demanding industrial applications.

Apacer Launches Leading Industrial-grade CFast 2.0 Memory Cards

Since the CompactFlash Association released the specification of CFast 2.0, Apacer has invested actively in R&D and taken the lead to roll out the first industrial-grade SATA 3.0 (6Gb/s) high-speed transmission interface CFast 2.0 memory card around the globe. Industry Survey Identifies Improved SSD Endurance as Key to Enterprise SSD Adoption

SMART Storage Systems, an innovative enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, today announced the results of an international industry survey revealing that 77 percent of respondents believe NAND Flash endurance is the key to widespread SSD adoption in the enterprise. Further underscoring the need for improved endurance of more cost-effective multi-level cell (MLC) NAND Flash, 55 percent of respondents identified cost as the primary barrier to transitioning to an all-Flash enterprise storage environment.

The SMART Storage Systems survey was conducted at the company's exposition booth during the 2012 Flash Memory Summit, VMworld 2012, SNW Fall (U.S.) 2012, and SNW Europe 2012 conferences, collecting 722 responses. Survey participants included IT management and infrastructure professionals, storage architects, and engineering and product managers from the United States and Europe.

Green House Unveils Three New CFast Memory Card Series

Japanese company Green House has today announced not one but three families of industrial-grade CFast memory cards, the SLC-based GH-CFS-NSA and GH-CFS-XSA, and the MLC-based GH-CFS-NMA. All three series make use of a JMicron controller and comply with the CFast Specification v1.0.

The models equipped with SLC NAND Flash have a MTBF of up to 4 million hours and deliver read/write speeds of up to 130/110 MB/s, while the MLC-powered cards have a 3 million-hour MTBF and top 130/120 MB/s when reading/writing (speeds vary with capacity).

All three CFast card lines are set to be released before the end of the month (so, this week). The GH-CFS-NSA and GH-CFS-XSA models come with a three-year warranty and go from 2 GB to 32 GB in terms of capacity, whereas the GH-CFS-NMA cards are backed by a one-year warranty and go from 8 GB to 64 GB.

Toshiba Outs New Hybrid Hard Drives

Toshiba announced the new MQ01ABD series hybrid hard drives for notebooks. Built in the 2.5-inch 9.5 mm-thick form-factor, the drives embed a dual-platter hard drive with 8 GB of SLC NAND flash memory, and 32 MB cache for the hard drive component. The hard drive component has a maximum spindle speed of 5,400 RPM. Available in 750 GB (MQ01ABD075H) and 1 TB (MQ01ABD100H) variants, the drives support SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and Advanced Format. The company did not reveal pricing, as the two drives are being sampled from today.
