Lenovo ThinkPad T440s UltraBook with Intel Haswell Coming Soon

Lenovo is getting all ready to launch their new ThinkPad T440s Ultrabook. Powered by Intel's latest and greatest 4th Generation Haswell Core processor, the ThinkPad T440s gives you the option to pick either a 1600 x 900 resolution IPS display or a 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS panel, both 14" in size.

Other features include NFC, Power Bridge battery (which allows you to swap batteries without having to power down the device) and a precision enhanced keyboard. The 3.5 pounds weighing Ultrabook launch date is not known as of yet, but seeing as it is already listed with a lot of details, the date can't be too far away.

Lenovo Gets in the 'Miix' with New Range of Touch-Enabled Windows Device

Lenovo today announced several new touch-enabled Windows laptops, along with Lenovo Miix, a platform-bending multi-mode device that adapts to a user's every need. As a 10.1-inch tablet that converts instantly into a fully-functioning, Windows 8 laptop, the Lenovo Miix combines versatility and power in one touch-enabled device. Samsung Now Mass Producing Industry's First PCI-Express SSD for Ultrabooks

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that it has begun mass producing the industry's first PCI-Express (PCIe) solid state drive (SSD) for next-generation ultra-slim notebook PCs.

"With the Samsung XP941, we have become the first to provide the highest performance PCIe SSD to global PC makers so that they can launch leading-edge ultra-slim notebook PCs this year," said Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. "Samsung plans to continue timely delivery of the most advanced PCIe SSD solutions with higher density and performance, and support global IT companies providing an extremely robust computing environment to consumers." Samsung started providing the new SSD to major notebook PC makers earlier this quarter. The XP941 lineup consists of 512, 256 and 128GB SSDs.

ADATA AXNP280E NGFF SSD Gives Ultrabooks 1800 MB/s Storage

Impressed with the SX2000 enterprise SSD? Wish you could have those speeds on a consumer device? The AXNP280E from ADATA could soon become an option. This NGFF (next-generation form-factor) SSD is based on a client variant of the LSI-Sandforce SF-8639 controller, which interfaces with the system over PCI-Express 2.0 x4, and offers sequential transfer rates as high as 1,800 MB/s reads and writes, with up to 200,000 IOPS 4K random access, and features essential to client SSDs, such as TRIM and NCQ. Belkin Releases USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Stands for Ultrabooks and Tablets

Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for office, classroom, IT infrastructure and mobile environments, today announced the release of two new docking stands: a Dual Video Docking Stand for Windows 8 tablets and Dual Video Docking Stand for Ultrabooks, making mobile computing easier and more productive for business users. WD Delivers World's Thinnest 1 TB Hard Drive

Acer Launches the Aspire S3 Ultrabook In the New S Series Family Style

Acer today announced the launch of the new 13.3" Aspire S3 Ultrabook at Computex Taipei. The S3 has inherited some of the industry-leading design and innovations of the Aspire S7, making it an impressively stylish and productive PC. Acer Enhances its Flagship Ultrabook, the Aspire S7

Acer presents the next-generation 13.3-inch Aspire S7Ultrabook at Computex Taipei. In addition to retaining the celebrated characteristics of the previous model, the new S7 Ultrabook has improved battery life for all-day computing, a refined electroluminescent (EL) backlit keyboard for more natural typing, and 2nd generation Acer TwinAir cooling with less fan noise. Innodisk Releases World's First Industrial-Embedded SATA µSSD - nanoSSD

Innodisk, a designer and manufacturer of SSDs for commercial and industrial applications, announces a release of the industrial-embedded industry's first SATA device in accordance to SATA µSSD standards - nanoSSD.

Through the integration of a control chip, flash memory and peripheral power components into a single ball grid array (BGA) package, Innodisk has managed to reduce the size of the nanoSSD to approximately 1% the size of a 2.5" SSD. I-O Data Introduces SSDN-3V Series

I-O Data rolled out the SSDN-3V line of consumer SSDs. Built in the Ultrabook-friendly 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch form-factor, the drives just about take advantage of SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and include a USB adapter that lets you plug it externally, to clone your existing software installation, using the included Acronis True Image 2013 software license. Available in 60 GB (SSDN-3V60), 120 GB (SSDN-3V120), and 240 GB (SSDN-3V120) capacities, the drives appear to be based on a SandForce 2281 controller platform, offering transfer-rates of up to 308 MB/s reads, with up to 185 MB/s writes. A 7 to 9.5 mm adapter comes included. The three are slated for the end of May.

Intel Brands Haswell GT3 "Iris", Desktop Variants Planned

With its 4th generation Core "Haswell" processors, Intel is putting in a serious effort to improve integrated graphics (IGP) performance to catch up with AMD's Radeon HD 8600 series on its latest APUs. There are three classes of Intel IGPs for Haswell, the GT1, which features 10 execution units (EUs), and will feature on entry-thru-mainstream Pentium, Core i3, and Core i5 chips; GT2, which features 20 EUs, featuring on mainstream-thru-performance Core i5 and Core i7 chips; and GT3, a large 40-EU IGP, which uses an L4 eDRAM cache. Chips with GT3 graphics are multi-chip modules (MCMs) of the CPU die and this eDRAM due, as detailed earlier. It was earlier believed that Haswell chips with GT3 graphics cores will be confined to notebook and Ultrabook-specific CPU models, but it turns out that it will make an appearance on the desktop platform as well.

Intel Readies Haswell Variants with Large Graphics Cores, and eDRAM Caches

To tackle upcoming generations of Ultrabooks and NUC that lack space for discrete graphics, yet having to keep up with the demands of higher display resolutions (i.e. proliferation of 3840 x 2160), Intel is designing special variants of its Core "Haswell" processors that feature large integrated graphics cores bolstered by fourth-level eDRAM caches on-package. Pictured below, is one such contraption.

The graphics-enhanced Core "Haswell" processor is an MCM (multi-chip module) of two dies, the larger one is the actual "Haswell" processor complex with cores, uncore, and the larger GT3 integrated graphics core. While the standard Haswell silicon with GT1 and GT2 integrated GPU options, physically features up to 20 execution units (EUs), the large GT3 silicon features double that, at 40 EUs.
