Value & Conclusion

  • The A-DATA Turbo Series 16 GB Compact Flash Card should retail for about $150 or 100€. This does make it an interesting choice for extremely small form factor PCs.
  • Large enough capacity to be used as a hard drive
  • Justified price/performance
  • Excellent write speed
  • Very good read speed
  • 2.5x - 3x the performance when compared to "Speedy" series
  • Great random access times
  • Should be able to handle most DSLR camera you throw at it
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Requires very little power
  • No moving parts
  • Interesting for extremely small PCs
  • 2.5x - 3x the price when compared to "Speedy" series
  • 32 GB MLC SSD SATA/IDE drives do not cost much more.
8.6The A-DATA 16GB Compact Flash card in its Turbo incarnation certainly deserves the name. Even though the 40 MB/s seem to be a theoretical value, the attained read performance of just under 30 MB/s in combination with a very fast access time, make this a great performing part. The maximum write speed of around 20 MB/s is a true highlight and really asks for the use as a hard drive. It may not offer as much capacity as the A-DATA Speedy series CF card, but does eliminate the write performance weakness. Do expect to pay around 2.5x to 3x more per Gigabyte for this card and its great performance though. If you are looking for a fast boot drive for an extremely small form factor PC and are willing to overlook the GB/$ ratio for this additional performance, then the A-DATA 16 GB Turbo card should be a perfect fit - especially if a 2.5" SSD won't fit into the space available.
