Value and Conclusion

  • The Akasa Integral P2NES sells for a mere 30 Euros and should be available very soon.
  • Reasonable price
  • Great SATA to USB 2.0 performance
  • USB 2.0 does not require any additional power source, no matter how fast the drive is
  • IDE & SATA within a 2.5 inch enclosure
  • Well constructed
  • All cables included
  • Pouch included
  • Optional power adapter available (AK-PAHUB)
  • Stackable
  • Well written manual
  • IDE to USB 2.0 performance could be faster
  • No direct heat transfer
  • May take up to two USB 2.0 ports for power, as the power brick has to be bought seperately
  • A bit longer than other 2.5 inch enclosures
  • Pouch does not feel very sturdy
9.2Akasa has once again expanded their very diverse lineup of Integral enclosures with a very unique and well performing enclosure. The use of eSATA and USB 2.0 connectivity give you the chance to utilize the faster eSATA on your home computer while still being able to access the drive when on the road. You may want to make sure to have at two USB 2.0 ports at your disposal on your mobile, eSATA equipped warrior. Some smaller ones only have two or three, which means you may be stuck on using the embedded pointing device instead of your mouse, or worse cannot power the Integral P2NES at all. Cooling is not such a big concern with most mobile drives, but the 7200 RPM variants do produce heat, which can be felt though the P2NES. It was at no point a real concern, as desktop drives churn out more heat than the smaller 2.5 inch variants.
