CM Storm NovaTouch TKL Gaming Keyboard Review

The Package & Closer Examination »

Introduction

CM Storm's line-up of quality gaming keyboards just improved with the addition of the NovaTouch TKL. The NovaTouch version features a special "hybrid" switch that is basically a normal capacitive switch with a beefed up spring element the Japanese company Topre supplies. This is, theoretically, an improvement over the full mechanical key that relies on physical contact between two conductive elements, as it decouples the switching from the tactile feedback function, or close to. The interesting part is, of course, whether or not these hybrid switches retain the strong points of both technologies or whether something is lost in the process. One of the clever things about the new NovaTouch key mechanism is that it features the same top arrangement as the Cherry MX keys, so you can use the same key tops as you would on a fully mechanical keyboard. CM Storm even supplies some rubber dampers that reduce typing noise somewhat, although at the cost of a little less tactile feedback.
