Qinpu V-1.8 Mini Desktop Speakers Review

The Package & Closer Examination »

Introduction

Head-Direct is a well known player on the audio market. Recently Head-Direct became Qinpu’s official US distributor. The Qinpu lineup is quite extensive ranging all the way from mini solid state amplifiers and mini speakers to some serious high-end speaker amplifiers capable of driving demanding loads. Qinpu also make several tube based headphone amplifiers, including the cheapest hybrid tube amp on the market. Today I will be taking a look at their V-1.8 desktop speakers. Sporting two 50 mm drivers in a MDF cabinet with a rosewood veneer finish. The price is $249 a set, which makes them a bit more expensive than the Travagan's mini speakers which we reviewed a while back along with the Travagan's Green speaker amplifier.

Specifications

  • Driver Unit: 2*50mm full range (2 in)
  • Frequency Response: 90Hz-16kHz
  • Impedance: 4O
  • Sensitivity: 88dB
  • Power: 10 Watts
  • Net weight: 1.55 kg/pcs
  • Height: 173 mm (6.8 in)
  • Width: 136 mm (5.4 in)
  • Depth: 102 mm (4.0 in)
  • Cabinet: MDF board with Rosewood veneer
As the specification list hints these speakers are of a very efficient design. With a sensitivity of 88 dB / watt and an impedance of 4 Ohms these are easy to drive. The dual driver configuration with a passive cross over is quite normal with bass reflex speakers. The two drivers work in tandem for the lower frequencies should result in a better rendering of that spectrum. The housing is fairly small, not Travagan's 2" mini speaker small, but far from as large as regular book shelf speakers.
