| 8.5 | The VSONIC R02-PROs look good and durable. Right from the earphones to the jack these are among the most durable I have ever had in my hands. At first they look a bit odd because of their rubber back, but after spending some serious time with them the exterior design makes great sense and adds to the usability of the earphones. Despite being low cost these feel and look just as well constructed as most in-ears that cost more than twice their price. The only real let down with the R02-PROs is their sonic performance. The overemphasized midrange and rather anemic bass makes them less enjoyable to listen to. They sound good, but nothing spectacular. Coming from the Head-Direct RE2s the similar named R02-PROs leave much to be desired. Of course the R02-PROs can be yours at roughly half the price, but you sacrifice so many details and sound quality that the $50 price premium is very well spent in my opinion.Price / performance wise these are on par with the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studios in the sense that you get a good midrange, but the bass lacks some kick. The Super.fis have better high end response whereas the R02-PROs have a bit more bass, but still not enough for some types of music to really shine. |
