Yuin G1 Clip-on Headphones

Introduction

Head-Direct is one of the many online vendors that specialize in headphones and headphone related accessories such as amplifiers and cables. One of the major Chinese brands that Head-Direct carries is named Yuin which is a relatively unknown headphone company compared to the really big ones such as Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Ultrasone and the likes.

Today we will be taking a look at the newest addition to the Yuin line-up which is called the G1. Since the G1 is a clip-on type headphone it uses a completely new driver. The G1 has very little to do with the OK1s and PK1s except for the fact that they are made by the same company. What is interesting to note is that the G1's impedance is 150 Ohms which means that you have to use a small headphone amplifier in order to get them to sound their best, much like with the OK1s and PK1s.

Due to the nature of the G1's design it is primarily aimed at those listeners that are on the move, but who do not need the noise attenuation that in-ears provide. Clip-on style headphones usually fill the gap between big headphones, earbuds, and earphones. The Yuin G1s have fairly large drivers which could never be fitted in an earphone or earbud for that matter. But they definitely fit into a normal size headphone. So the clip-ons are in fact just supreaural type headphones that are kept in place by a clip instead of a headband. The clip-on style of mounting is very well suited for use on the move because it locks the headphones in place to a greater extent than a headband does. This degree of fixation is very hard to achieve with a headband without making the clinching force of the headband high, thus making the headphone uncomfortable to wear over an extended period of time.
