Test Setup


In order to give you a comparative view on the performance differences between Quad SLI and ATI's Crossfire, we got two identical systems. Only the motherboard is different, and of course the video cards.

Quad-SLI system



  • AMD Athlon FX-60 2600 MHz
  • Zalman CNPS9500LED
  • ASUS A8N32
  • 2x 512 MB DDR Corsair
  • WD1500 150 GB HDD
  • 2x NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GX2
  • Cooler Master Stacker RC-830
  • Windows XP SP2, Forceware 87.24 (the GX2 retail driver)
  • Apple 30" HD TFT, 2560x1600 max. resolution

This system was bought from German computer retailer Arlt, for a price of around € 5000 (= ~6300 USD, including 16% VAT).

CrossFire system



  • AMD Athlon FX-60 2600 MHz

  • 2x 512 MB DDR Corsair
  • WD1500 150 GB HDD
  • Radeon X1900 XTX + Crossfire
  • Cooler Master Stacker RC-830
  • Windows XP SP2, Catalyst 6.4
  • Apple 30" HD TFT, 2560x1600 max. resolution
This system was also bought at Arlt.
