OCZ says this stick is rugged and can take a punch. To verify these claims we did a few simple experiments.


Here it is again, my beloved morning bread oven. The stick was put into it and the oven left running for about 5 minutes. The oven heated the stick to over 150°C, but the plastic did not melt. However, when I removed it from the oven I noticed that the stick had swollen a bit. This is probably because the plastic expands and there is nowhere to go, so it bulges up. When the stick cooled down it went back to its original shape, also data integrity was not harmed at all during this experiment.


Next I drove over the stick with my car. I ensured to stop right on top of the stick, note how the tire got bent. After driving off the USB stick and forgetting to pull the handbrake I had a minor heart attack but nothing happened to me, the car or the neighbor's car. Here again the USB stick did not lose a single bit of information.


As final test I decided to fry the stick, literally. I heated up oil in a pan and threw the USB stick into it and left it there for a while. For more effect the USB stick was wet on the outside, so you can see the flying oil (yes it's hot and it hurts). Needless to say that the stick still worked, but the cap came off much easier thanks to the oil that made it into the cap.
