Introduction

Patriot Logo

Patriot has over 25 years of experience in the field of DRAM and flash memory. Being headquartered in the United States they promise leading quality without compromise for quality. The Patriot Inferno 100 GB SSD is based on the Sandforce SF-1222 flash controller which is all the latest rage in the solid state drive industry now. In order to provide improved performance, the flash controller uses overprovisioning to set aside some capacity as work area. The drive comes with 128 GB of physical capacity, of which 28 GB are set aside as work area for the controller, so there is 100 GB left for the user to store data on, since the drive is specifically marketed as a 100 GB drive, we have no qualms. Other vendors have shrunk down the overprovisioning to 8 GB (on 128 GB SSDs, leaving 120 GB of data area) to achieve better price per GB.

What makes the Patriot Inferno stand out from the rest of the SSDs available today is their 5 year warranty which could come in handy considering SSDs are a pretty new technology without any long-term use experience.
