QNAP TS-109 Pro Turbo Station

Fileserver

The TurboStation 109 Pro can be used as fileserver in three different ways:

• Windows file sharing
• FTP
• Via nice web interface.

During the initial setup the unit is setup to use Windows file sharing and the web interface. The unit can be accessed via \\TechPowerUp or \\192.168.0.5 (this is the IP I gave it). It has several directories for each service and makes additional ones for USB devices.


The web interface can be accessed via the maintenance page, it shows the same files as Windows file sharing.


FTP can be setup via maintenance too, it again shows the same directory structure though allows access via the FTP protocol. User management is global for all three options.

Additional USB storage devices (external harddrives, USB sticks, etc) turn up as a new folder amongst the other folders. By pressing the "copy" button on the front of the unit the device will be copied to a folder within the Qusb share. It is very easy to backup your USB stick that way since no computer is required. The downside of the USB devices is that you need to log on to the webinterface or shut the whole unit down to disconnect the USB device safely.

Webserver

If you want to host your own website the Turbo Station can help you out. It comes with Apache+PHP installed.

If required, php.ini could be edited, allowing the server to become quite versatile for more advanced users.
The www root is listed amongst the default shares, uploading a site is a piece of cake this way.

SQL server

To back up the webserver a MySQL server is available. Your website could become quite professional with it.

SQL is easily managed, there aren't any confusing options.

Printserver

Connecting a printer to an USB port allows the unit to function as print server, ideal for networks with a printer. The printer is easily shared like other resources and can be installed on a computer by double clicking it. Basically the same way you share a printer on any network.

Download Station

For many people this function is perfect, you can download your Torrents via the web interface. You can download your favorite Linux ISO without having to keep your computer running all night. Besides Torrents the download manager also supports HTTP and FTP transfers.

DDNS

Don't own a domain? Is your IP too hard to remember? The TurboStation supports various dynamic DNS services. Just type in your login credentials and you will be able to access the TurboStation from anywhere.



It can't get much easier to configure this.
