Performance

Orochi

Given that the Orochi is a dual mode mouse I decided to test it both using it wirelessly with my laptop and hooked up to my main gaming PC at home. In order to get a fair idea of how the mouse performed I installed the CPL mouse fix which removes Windows pointer acceleration and turned all other mouse enhancement features off. First off I was quite surprised with how well this mouse fared against my usual mouse which is a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 boosted to 500 Hz polling rate. The mouse was a pleasure to use it handles great acceleration with ease and has an unusually low lift off distance which made the switch much more pleasant than expected. Even the ergonomics of the Orochi worked well for me even though I have a big hand. The Doppler laser sensor featured in the Orochi is most likely the same as in the older Lachesis gaming mouse, and it is still one of the top performers out there all aspects considered. The Orochi performs well at just about any sensitivity, it is perhaps most useful at a high sensitivity due to its more finger control oriented body. The buttons on the mouse are firm and give off a good click feel so there is no doubt whether you pressed hard enough. The scroll wheel is likewise very well made and has just enough tactile response in order for you to feel how many clicks you have rolled, for games this is essential, for casual desktop use some prefer a clickless scroll wheel.

With the mouse hooked up to the PC via cable it performs really good and is on par with the performance of other gaming grade mice, however, when used wirelessly it becomes a bit more sloppy and it loses its edge.

The drivers for the Orochi lets you set it up exactly the way you want it. I have not been able to find anything in the driver that prohibits me from tweaking the mouse to my liking.
