Value & Conclusion

  • The Silverstone TS01B will set you back somewhere just below 40 €, depending on your local taxes.
  • Excellent Performance
  • Extremely low CPU utilization
  • Very compact but solid construction
  • Encryption easy to set up & use
  • Everything needed is included - even a small screw driver
  • Two types of USB cables in the package
  • Two sturdy RFID tags included
  • Well packaged
  • Not possible to just encrypt part of the hard drive
  • Only two RFID tags possible
  • Tags already married to device, no replacement possible
  • No external power supply included
  • Hard drive not protected well, in case of a drop
9.4Silverstone has managed to create a very impressive 2.5" SATA enclosure. The performance speaks for itself and the TS01B shamelessly shows most other enclosures how it is done, even when the drive is encrypted. The solid and very compact construction further widens the smile on my face and the two RFID tags are sturdy as well and should hold out well on your key chain. It would have been nice if one could only encrypt parts of the hard drive instead of the entire unit, but the setup is incredibly easy and performance does not suffer at all, so there is no reason not to use this function. The only downside is the fact, that lost RFID tags cannot be replaced and you may need to go out and buy an entire new unit instead. It would be great if Silverstone could offer the backend of the enclosure with the PCB along with two new RFID tags as a seperate emergency package. That way you won't end up paying for parts you won't need.
