Installation & Finished Look

Installation

The USB cable should be long enough to be used in larger tower cases as well. It ends as a traditional USB plug, but comes attached with a converter so you can plug the unit directly into the mainboard USB header. That is a great idea and ensures compatibility with different cases, mainboards and setups. The power for the display is taken directly from the 24 pin mainboard connector. You just plug the cable between the 24 pin ATX connector coming from your power supply and the mainboard. The extra four pins can be separated for everyone still using a mainboard with the old 20 pin connector. This way the unit is powered and you do not need to use a Molex connector.

So I wanted to stuff this into the Aspire X-QPack (read the review here). I connected the power connector, then looped the power button through the display and connected the USB header on my mainboard. The entire installation took maybe 10 minutes and is extremely easy. Well done SoundGraph!

Finished Look

The supplied screws need to be used to fixate the VFD, as it has much smaller holes than any optical drive. Once that was done, I closed the case and snapped a picture of it finished. Now that looks really nice. A case with a clean and straight front should look even better with this.
