The Inside

Before opening the box up I figured I'd see what Linux tells me about the hardware. Unfortunately Thecus does not allow Telnet/SSH access to the NAS by default. This is easily solved via a third party module, according to Google, N5200 modules are compatible. In this case Google is right.

Since Thecus uses thumbscrews I can only assume they don't mind me taking a peek inside.

The cover comes off very easily, when removed the motherboard can be seen immediately.

The RAM can be easily upgraded as it's just a SO-DIMM. Additionally there is a 128MB flash module for the OS.

Apart from these parts there isn't much to mess with yourself. So the fact that the box is easy to open really doesn't mean much.
