Performance

Judging the performance of a mouse is based almost purely on subjective opinion. Some gamers like a fast, small and light mouse. Others want to use bigger movements and mice that fill the entire palm, while feeling the weight during movement. The first thing you will notice when using a mouse is the comfort (or lack thereof). Playing with the M1 is meant for low sensitity gamers at default, as the mouse works well without any software installed.


The movement was smooth and the mouse works well on plastic mouse pads. Where it really shines is on Zykon's own P3 cloth pad. It is just smooth enough for most games and the stop is completely effortless. This means the mouse will never fly further than you have intended, which should make it great for games like Counter-Strike. Such an attribute is perfect for low sensitivity gamers who use large cloth pads. The finer the cloth is, the better for the M1.

Playing at high sensitivity with the mouse works well too, but does feel a bit too fast nonetheless. The very low weight, thin front and overall compact dimension make it hard to feel the movement perfectly when moving the mouse just a few inches. If the mouse would be heavier, it would take more effort and thus feel to move the M1, yielding a bit better results. But even at such settings, gaming is quite nice and you should get used to it after a few longer sessions. Do not take the mouse to a LAN party and use it there for the first time as a high sensitivity gamer, as you will not be able to perfrom as good with it right out of the box.

Cycling through the DPI settings yielded very different results. The mouse can be set at 400, 800, 1200 or 1600 DPI. The lowest setting - 400 DPI - is incredibly slow and does require the entire P3 mouse pad area to allow full movement. With the M1 either 800 or 1200 DPI seems to be the most balanced setting. The highest mode is quite usuable, but tends to be a bit much for the average gamer.
