Value and Conclusion

  • The a.m.p SP1 sells for $89.
  • Available in lots of different colors
  • Good price/performance ratio
  • Good design
  • Easy to use
  • Very portable
  • 10 hours battery life
  • No charger in bundle
  • Distortion at higher volume levels
Antec's new mobile products division definitely got a whole lot of things right with the SP1. It is down on pretty much all performance aspects if benched against the UE BOOM, but UE's solution is also over twice the price, making SP1's performance completely acceptable, and it can, depending on how you use it, be nearly be as good as the UE BOOM. As a portable device, the SP1 shines with its low weight and compact design; however, its battery life could also be a bit longer. The latter is not a major con, but is something you should think about before making a purchase.

Sound quality on the a.m.p SP1 is remarkable for a $89 portable speaker. Its performance at maximum volume leaves something to be desired, but keep it at around 75% volume and the SP1 will be limited in terms of quality because of Bluetooth compression.

We do love the rugged and easy-to-clean exterior of the SP1—not only does it look good but it is also functional.
