Cooler Master showed off a new line of performance-segment PSUs under its V-series. Consisting of three models, the V700 (700W), V850 (850W) and V1000 (1000W), the three boast of 80 Plus Gold efficiency rating (90 percent efficiency at 50 percent load, 87 percent efficiency at 100 percent load).

The three feature fully modular cabling (including 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS); four 6+2 pin PCIe connectors on the V700, and six on the V850 and V1000; and all modern protection features. Tacens announced the sixth-generation of its Radix series power supplies. The series includes 550W, 650W, 750W, and 850W models; all of which feature single +12V rail designs, and over 85% efficiency (according to the company), making them 80 Plus Bronze eligible. The 550W variant features a single 6+2 pin PCIe power connector, the 650W and 750W models feature two, and the 850W model features four. All four are cooled by 140 mm Aura Pro fans. In addition to the four standard Radix ATX v2.3 PSUs, Tacens also introduced two Radix Eco series PSU models, 500W and 400W. Akasa displayed its newest line of enthusiast-segment PSUs, Venom Power XT. The 80 Plus Gold-certified line of ATX v2.3 PSUs will initially include two high capacity models, 850W and 1000W. (brand name) announced a major expansion of its power supply lineup, with two new product lines: the 80 Plus Silver certified Straight Power E8 series, and 80 Plus Gold certified Dark Power Pro P9 series. The Straight Power E8 series includes 400W, 450W, 500W, 550W, 600W, and 700W models that have completely fixed cabling, and 480W, 580W and 680W models with modular cabling. The Dark Power Pro P9 series, on the other hand, includes 550W, 650W, 750W, 850W, 1000W and 1200W models, all of which have modular cabling.

XFX announced its new, more affordable, high-wattage PSU series, the Pro Series Core Edition. These are non-modular, single 12V rail design PSUs which feature what XFX refers to as "EasyRail" technology, that ensures all components get to draw their required amount of power since a single-rail design is more accommodating compared to a multi-rail design. It is available in 650W, 750W, and 850W models. The company did not detail the connector layout of each model in detail, but we can tell that all models are SLI and CrossFire certified, and going from bottom up, support 2-way and 3-way multi-GPU configurations.

We had a chance to drop by the XFX suite during the Computex. They are showing off their Radeon HD 4770. It comes with the dual slot reference cooler, which was actually not intended for retail and the power supply has a very unique design along with a cable management system. The PSU is rated for 850W and features a single 70A 12V rail. On top of that it is 80Plus Silver certified.

Manufacturers branching out in to different segments seems to be the in thing to do at the moment and XFX is no exception as leaked slides on the forums of Legit Reviews, reveal that XFX are getting ready to announce their first power supply line at Computex Taipei 2009 next month. The first of which has been dubbed the 850 W Black Edition (XPS-850W-BES), which follows suit of many of their Black Edition graphics cards. It is a modular PSU featuring 88% effeciency and sports a 70A single 12v rail capped at 840 W. It would seem XFX are taking this seriously as the combined output across all of the wattage caps is in excess of 1,000 W. According to the slides the PSU features 105°C Japanese brand capacitors, +/-3% voltage regulation, solid polymer caps, and a 135mm ball bearing fan. Using a combination of fixed and removable cables the XFX 850 W Black Edition has 4 PCI-E 6+2 Pin connectors, 11 SATA connectors and 8 Molex connectors.Source: Legit Reviews
