The Teamgroup EX2 Elite is a solid-state drive in the 2.5" form factor, launched on July 2nd, 2020. It is available in capacities ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. This page reports specifications for the 1 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Teamgroup EX2 Elite interfaces using a SATA 6 Gbps connection. The SSD controller is the SM2258XT from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache is not available. Teamgroup has installed 64-layer TLC NAND flash on the EX2 Elite, the flash chips are made by Toshiba. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are processed more quickly. The cache is sized at 358 GB, once it is full, writes complete at 15 MB/s. The EX2 Elite is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s write; random IOPS reach up to 40K for reads and 35K for writes.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 90 USD. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Teamgroup guarantees an endurance rating of 800 TBW, a good value.
