Ah, one of those desktops in notebook clothing. They are only useful if you move frequently (ie change your house/place of stay) often.

They use the term notebook loosely :ohwell:

Hahahahahaha wait! It's not a notebook, it's a 'notebook' form factor computer with a UPS! They're not even advertising battery life, just UPS capabilities :D :D :D

Let's face it, you'd need a car battery to get any measurable battery life!

Maybe they should just call it an "All-in-One" computer? Or a "Portable Desktop" as it'll still be sitting on top of a desk and not on a lap.

I dont care if it pulls its power from my peen, I must have one. I travel a lot so I have to leave most of my gaming on hold till I return home. My Asus laptop is great and plays games very well even at higher settings. But this bad boy could make my nightly motel stays more enjoyable and I can use all the power I want while Im there.

I was just scrolling through the front page, when I saw "Hat and Solaris" at the end of the second paragraph, and I seriously thought to myself, "Why is bta talking about them on the frontpage?"
Then, I saw the word "Red" in front of "Hat and Solaris" and said, "D'oh!"

On Topic
I'm going to go ahead and guess these aren't intended to ever be run off the battery for very long. As it's been pointed out already, they just call the battery a built-in UPS and don't mention how long it lasts. So, no, it's not a notebook in the sense that you think of a typical notebook.
It's exactly as they describe it: A mobile server/workstation.

You might dismiss this right away and say, "What's the point in a notebook that's intended to be plugged in all the time?"

And I would ask you this: "Do you want to drag a typical server tower or rack around--not just within one building, mind you, but everywhere you go? And a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and UPS?"

edit: just adding stuff I forgot

I'd like to see the price as well, but I don't think price matters much for anybody in the market for one of these.

Eurocom always brings the heat, and this is no exception. I was expecting a mobile version of this, but it is pretty much a desktop in slim form.

Go to "products" and then select the Panther from the "Mobile Workstation" column.

A "base model" with a 1920*1200 screen, a Core i7 920 CPU, 3*2GB DDR3 and a Mobile HD5870 1GB GDDR5, bluetooth and wireless N, 640GB hard drive costs about 2300€ or US$2930.

It's not expensive for a laptop that powerfull.
Of course, getting the 6-core 980X will come at an extra 800€, so you pay for what you get.

The battery is a 12-cell, so it should be good for over an hour of battery (there's really no "offline productivity" with this one, though).

Nonetheless, it's a solid and very upgradeable platform.

Just being so easily upgradeable alone makes it worth paying at least a few hundred extra for imo. Especially with how relatively inexpensive it is compared to competing "laptops."

EDIT: LOL, just for fun, I decided to see how expensive I could get an order for one of these to be. 4x512GB SSDs at ~$1500 . . .
