Firefox 4 Clocks Over Six Million Downloads in First 24 Hours

Released to the web, Mozilla Firefox 4 has been downloaded over 6 million times in 24 hours since its launch. The figure is three times greater than that of Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, which clocked about 2 million downloads in its first 24 hours since launch. Firefox 4 is the latest version of the popular open-source web-browser software, it introduced radical design changes to its user interface, and embraced a faster GPU-accelerated rendering engine. Firefox 4 can be downloaded from here.

I'm surprised by this version of firefox, I may go back (from chrome) It's sleek and spare and performs well, with all of the user-centric tools, design and add-ons that I missed when I left...I get the feeling I'm staying.

If you're talking about the toolbar layout, buttons, etc, you know that you can fully customize it, right? (and make it look like the old one if that's what you desire)

Just right click on the toolbar and select customize, then drag&drop any element wherever you want it.

I'm back from Chrome. Almost the same speed, but MUCH better compatibility.

Just realized all the fonts were blurry. Disabled HW accel and the fonts are back to normal.

Unfortunately my Atom + ION system seemed much faster with HW accel on. Its running a 1080P screen.

Oh well, I'll look at HW accel again once they fix the blurry fonts.

Updated all my systems yesterday. Works great. Have updated portable edition today at work. Also works fine.

@brandonwh64
Yeah, most of ppl use Open new tab these days. I knew it that something changed there but i wasn't sure. Now i see that they have indeed exchanged those two options. It will require some getting used to it but it's better.

Firefox looks great but side by side chrome is still opening web pages substantially faster than firefox.

Find a plugin on firefox you can't live without, it's why I've not moved

( use chrome on any low power rigs I have though)

Everyone I tell about middle-click is like "ZOMGWTFBBQ why didn't I know that before?!"
I also use ctrl+scroll wheel for optimal webpage viewing :pimp:

I downloaded it last night, I've been waiting to hear people's opinions before installing. I'm gonna wait a little more...

I knew about zooming etc, just didn't know about middle click.

Hell I know how to access firefox cache from within the browser so I can get flv files to play games on newgrounds.com offline lol.

But middleclick, that blew my mind!

Love zooming when you get a video that hasn't got a fullscreen mode.

why not just try it and get yourself an opinion?

as for the plug-ins I need, I use Firefox whenever I need the plug-in and then continue using chrome lol....

I mean about any possible bugs and problems rather than changes to the UI, etc. In any case you're right really, I suppose there's only one way to find out :o

o
I learnt to do this before such things existed :p

By the by, been using the beta versions since they were publically available, it's been stable for me since the 3rd beta build, think they've had 3 versions since then and then this final release.

So it's probably stable. ;)

Interestingly, When I get a subscription notification from tpu, under ff4 the links don't direct to the page...I'm wondering where the problem is.

When I right click, and tell it to open in a new tab, it works, however if I simply click the link, I get something a URL that includes mail.google.com...weird.
