Doom 3 BFG Edition Announcement Trailer Posted

For all those who missed the 2004 cult classic Doom 3, Bethesda and id are remastering it for today's gaming platforms (widescreen PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3). Called Doom 3 BFG Edition, the new title includes the entire back catalogue of the Doom franchise, plus Doom 3 (main and Resurrection of Evil) with added levels, that's remastered (our wishlist includes higher resolution textures, improved special effects, tessellation maps, and EAX 4-like sound effects over software). What's more, the perspective will finally be optimized for 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen displays.

Bethesda and id will detail the title further at E3. For now, check out the groovy trailer after the break.

Kinda feels like they want to make some easy money after RAGE to me.
Ah well, lets bring out the classics once again I guess, hope they will add this as a patch for those who already have owned Doom 3 for ages on the PC.

I would highly recommend some HD texturepack and sikkmod instead, which adds, HDR, DOF, Gaussian soft-shadows, ambient lighting and occlusion, etc.
They just releasing one of their old game with new content, and its obviously targeting new players and not you. I admit, Doom3 is not one of my favorite games and they really need to hire somebody who knows how to make the gameplay fun, but I do like id software, and I hope they will get some money with this one.
We desperately need innovation and guys like J.C in the gaming industry in times like this, when we have coders around who are feeding the hardware with ridiculously unoptimized and ported realtime renderers, because they are not capable of coding game engines.

This could get them some hype perhaps.

In its day the graphics were beautiful.

Often have the enemy behind your back and that keeps you in constant suspense.

but I've played a couple of times and no more

What happened to the DLC for RAGE???

SPEND AN ENTIRE SECTION ON THE MAIN MENU ON THE DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT AND AFTER ALL THIS TIME STILL NOTHING?

Scandalous!

this awesome! back when this game originally released I was basically only playing RTS games. I never got caught up in the DOOM FPS hype. So this is like a whole new game to me.... I plan on buying it.

It makes me really sad that they promissed RAGE will ship with id Studio, and you will be able to start it right from the console. That was simply not true:(

So strange. Never would have thought that doom 3 can become a cashcow.

Looks exactly the same like it did back in its days. Is "Remastered" now just a fancy name for a game porting?

Wish they would remaster RE1 2 3 and Code Veronica.

TBH, I was thoroughly impressed with the porting job of bringing Doom III (and RoE) to the original Xbox. It actually ran fairly well at 480p with roughly equivalent to medium spec PC settings. After that feat, porting such an old game (even 'remastered'), hardly seems like an impressive thing to do.

And now, you have a flashlight on your armor apparently, so no more weapon/flashlight swapping. No opinion on the matter from me, just something to note.

I thought "Awesome an enhanced DOOM 3!":rockout:
Then I saw the trailer and I regret it.:shadedshu
Come on id you could do better!
any enhancement mod out there looks way better than that,
I love the Doom 3 HD mod specially, it just looks so awesome, it almost require a GTX 480 to run fluidly maxed at 1080p w/o AA.

Just look at it:

Wow, lots of gaming snobs.

Doom 3, one of the best games I have ever played. It was definitely the scariest provided that you play it at 3am in the dark with surround sound.

I think gun/flashlight swapping is a good feature. It ensures that sometimes you will not be oriented with your surroundings, especially when fighting enemies.
