Apple Sells Three Million iPads in Three Days

Apple today announced it has sold three million iPads in just three days since the launch of its new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad - double the previous first weekend milestone of 1.5 million Wi-Fi only models sold for the third generation iPad in March. The Wi-Fi + Cellular versions of both iPad mini and fourth generation iPad will ship in a few weeks in the US and in many more countries later this year.

"Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis. We're working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand."

The new iPad mini features a stunning 7.9-inch Multi-Touch display, FaceTime HD and iSight cameras, ultrafast wireless performance and an incredible 10 hours of battery life. The new fourth generation iPad features a gorgeous 9.7-inch Retina display, new Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTime HD camera and ultrafast wireless performance.

Both iPad mini and the new fourth generation iPad with Retina display are available in 34 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and the UK, and will be available in many more countries later this year, including mainland China. Demand for iPad mini exceeded the initial supply and while many of the pre-orders have been shipped to customers, some are scheduled to be shipped later this month.

Pricing & Availability
iPad mini with Wi-Fi comes in either white & silver or black & slate, and is available in the US for a suggested retail price of $329 (US) for the 16 GB model, $429 (US) for the 32 GB model and $529 (US) for the 64 GB model. Fourth generation iPad with Wi-Fi models are available in black or white for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16 GB model, $599 (US) for the 32 GB model and $699 (US) for the 64 GB model. iPad mini with Wi-Fi + Cellular and fourth generation iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular will be available in the US on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon in a few weeks. iPad mini with Wi-Fi + Cellular will be offered for a suggested retail price of $459 (US) for the 16 GB model, $559 (US) for the 32 GB model and $659 (US) for the 64 GB model. I wonder how many people upgraded from an Ipad 3 to an Ipad 4? Both where released in the same year.

Instead of being part of 3 million people who bought the ipad starting at 329$, where it sells like 1000$ in my country, i bought a chinese tablet, for 70$ with shipping included to my country.

I have heard Apple took the technology of ipads from samsung and it was not Steve Jobs who invented it like it is said in commercial TV ads

To be fair, this isn't really news.

I didn't want to comment because there's nothing to say. So TPU does a news post that Apple has sold 'x' amount of product - is anyone surprised? The iPad is a good product.

However TPU needs some marketing balance. Samsung have sold 30 million S3's in 157 days, achieving their sales target two months early.

They're catching up with iPhone sales:
Apple confirmed in its quarterly results that it had sold 26.9 million iPhones in the three month period, though didn't confirm what percentage of devices were iPhone 5s and so it's difficult to say who's ahead at the stage in the game, all we can say is that, Apple certainly no longer stands alone in leading high-end smartphone sales.

I like that apple take extra 200$ to get their 64GB instead of 16GB, and profits form that like 170$ :D. but I hate that samsungs "& co" starts to price their models in the same way!!!! and that is desrespectfull - if I would be so dumb (to giveaway 150$+) I would spend all my money on apple then :D

What annoys me is the ~$300 price difference where the only product difference is memory, which probably didn't cost more than $10 to manufacture.

That's how Apple makes its money by upselling the components.... upgrades for the small stuff like hard drive space are insane.

Yep. Most of their base configs are priced OK, considering the hardware you get and the screen quality of most of them, but they gouge the shit out of you on upgrades.

What manufacturer doesn't rape consumers on upgrades? Lenovo wanted $160 for an extra 4GB RAM on my ThinkPad X230.

The intelligence of people decreases in inverse correlation to their baseless hate of apple.

Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Wait what? So the more you baselessly hate apple the less your intelligence decreases?

Here I graphed it for you:

You basically outlined a model in which everyone gets stupider. The Apple haters just get stupider at an exponentially slower rate
