Windows Vista will go into reduced functionality mode if it is not genuine.

Windows Vista will be protected by more then just a simple CD key. If Windows Vista cannot detect that it is genuine, the computer goes into "reduced functionality mode". This means that Aero is disabled, simple web browsing will only work occasionally, and many features of the operating system are disabled. Whether or not those features would include video acceleration is unknown, but certainly possible.

I suspect Vista will always be in "reduced functionality mode" if it's anything like all versions of Windoze. MICROSUCKS can't fix Windoze but they think Vista is better. Yeah, right.

i actually think the Build 5728 is very good for being in beta stages. I havnt experienced any instability, and it doesnt really stress my video card.

I think that it will be an improvement over XP, i doubt that they think XP is perfect and there is nothing to improve.

we'll see how it is @ the release. Dont criticize till its actually done being produced. we're pretty much stuck with using windows.. :respect: try and make the best of it... haha

Good to know: I have the last release (public one 5728), & I have not had time to do the ISO burn & install... stupid as that may sound, I haven't found time!

VISTA's improved: Even over what I use now, Windows Server 2003 fully hotfix updated... under the skin, it has seen a LOT of changes for the better (except for, imo @ least, OpenGL being driven via a DirectX function call wrapper, slowing it up).

In fact, imo @ least? I think MS KNOWS it is VASTLY improved over its predecessors, & expects folks to want it BAD... hence, WHY they are attempting to protect it so much vs. piracy of it.

VERY TRUE! I agree, 100%...

iirc, windows hired actual hackers to prevent "counter hacking". They hired a few people known for their software skills to help improve windows vistas security.

its going to be pretty hard to get past this windows vista, but no doubt in my mind, it will be done.. lol.. and then patched.. and then done again, and on goes the hacking cracking patching circle

If they reduced the price then the amount of piracy would go down dramatically. Paying $100 to put Windows on every computer I build is just to much... esp. when there are versions of Linux that are free.

Every version of Windows I've ever had have been purchased through work. The univeristy gives us HUGE discounts. I got a XP Pro for ~$15. I'm hoping they sell Vista when it comes out.

Exactly.. i agree. Its not good that MS has monopoly over the OS business. We need a OS rival for MS, only then will ms drop their prices. Now they can do whatever they want.. So sure i think vista will be great when its patch´d and ready, Q2 of 07 maybe. But i dont want to pay 400bucks for my OS. I remember MS promising that Vista will be much cheaper than xp. That we could get a copy for 100$ max, or so?? Or was i dreaming?

Yes but M$'s profits would also fall. They probably have economists examining the market and working out piracy against price estimated and programmers to try and counter piracy. At the end of the day they don't care about the piracy itself but the money lost from it.

Anyway, this will be hacked in days.

The hackers are just gonna sell out and release all the flaws they found to their hacker buddies so they can hack Vista themselves.

They have decided that a "new computer" = motherboard, right? Like new motherboard = new Vista. Or am I mistaken (PLEASE, SAY YES!!)?

Microsoft better fix the WGA crap. I dont want to end up with reduced functionality because they cant do something right. just think about all the people with legit copies of windows XP that get the "your windows installation is not genuine" crap. i know of at least 5-6 people that get that error with a legit copy.

I actually look forward to buying a genuine version of Vista, the betas have been top notch IMO and have been almost stable enough for me to consider using Vista beta as my main operating system... and I hate M$, quite simply Vista is turning out to be quite amazing.

$100!!! Are you kidding $100 would be a godsend. XP STILL is way more than that. If they followed the pricing structure of OSX , there wouldn't be such a big problem. $300 for an OS is totally out of control.

bill gates is the richest guy in the world..

windows is the most pirated piece of software in the world..

those two facts dont kinda gell unless u think out of the box..

the xbox for example.. the gillette method of selling or the gillette method of controled piracy..???

basically u get everybody hooked on your gizmo then when they are u take advantage of the fact..

the best way to get anybody hooked on a piece of software is to make it freely available.. or at least a cut down version of the software freely available..

i think the reason we are dependant on windows is in very great part down to the fact its been so easily pirated.. read freely available.. read deliberately so.. he he he

we are hooked on windows totally.. we are dependant on windows.. now the big bad corporation can tighten up its loose security and really make us all pay...

so how rich is bill gonna get now i wonder.. ???

M$ haters fuck off.

He built a empire the same as many in the past, the same as a blowhard with a TV show where he "fires" people who are fag enought to want to kiss his ass. But no one bashes him, as he has a TV show.

If you have or want something elese or better, there is open source.
