Overview of Server on the Go, Mobile Server, Out of the Box Server
Server-on-the-Go is a new category of server class notebook form factor computer. The All-in-One compact design, single computer solution allows for server capability anytime, anywhere. Server-on-the-Go allows for either "on-the-go", "rapid server deployment" or "Ad Hoc" (temporary network setup) when single server capability is required, multiple operating system compatibility is needed and running virtual machines is a must. A Server-on-the-Go solution is perfect for software and database developers, training centers, military personnel, manufacturing, marketing and trade shows, emergency relief and service organizations.

Fast deployment, right out of the box, combined with easy relocation and the ability to hand carry the system make the EUROCOM Panther 5.0 SE an extremely easy system to travel with while providing server capabilities.

The EUROCOM Mobile Server solution significantly reduces the time and cost of deploying short-term LAN based solutions and of extending the usage of existing business applications to users wherever is required.

A Server-on-the-Go solution fulfills four essential criteria:
  • Ultra-compact size
  • Enterprise-class server platform hardware
  • Significant power savings
  • Complete mobility
  • Long Term Stability
Taken together, these qualities overcome the bottlenecks of traditional rack mount servers. Unlike conventional servers the EUROCOM Panther 5.0 SE is equipped with an integrated keyboard, LCD Display and Uninterruptible Power Supply (Battery Pack). A Polymer Smart Lithium Ion, 78.44 WH, 8 cell battery provides the backup power, allowing for safe shutdown during prolonged blackouts and for continued use during short power outages.

Like all EUROCOM systems, long stable life spans of the system are attained by incorporating advanced cooling technology to ensure the system does not overheat. With the long list of highly capable components the EUROCOM Panther 5.0 SE is kept operational by having four large cooling fans pass air through the systems heat sinks. This cooling system disseminates heat through the rear of the system, away from the operator.

Overview of Microsoft Server 2012 Features:
Windows Server 2012 is the sixth release of Windows Server and succeeds Windows Server 2008 R2. 2012 has several added features over 2008 R2, such as an updated version of Hyper-V, an IP address management role, new Windows Task Manager and ReFS, which is a new file system intended for file servers that is an improvement over NTFS.

Windows Server 2012 provides extra virtualization capability, allowing higher performance, low cost computing through virtualization on one platform. It allows for development of images of virtual machines and porting them to production servers. Hyper-V allows for network virtualization, multi tenancy and storage resource pooling.

blibbaNo ECC?
If it takes laptop memory, I don't think there are any SODIMMs that run buffered or with ECC. That's one beast of a mobile server. Pretty cool if you ask me. Hook it up to some cell service and you have practically a normal server. With how fast 4G is now, it's just like having a real thing with a real internet connection.

The same kind of people who need (not want) a 6-core processor but want it to be mobile. Your average consumer wouldn't buy this. Hell, this is targetted to a particular niche. I could see this being useful for remote weather observation stations. Weather data can take a lot of power to process but you might not have room or supplies for a full blown server.

Businesses and Government bodies who have a need for a very portable server. Think about Disaster recovery scenario's. You have the ability to have a mobile work unit set-up within minutes. Domain services pre-configured, perhaps you configure it for such things as mineral exploration applications for mining companies. A nice powerful, mobile server enabling you to crunch on the fly in area's where you don't have reliable Internet access (think Africa).

Even in defence roles. The ability to roll-in. Set up shop fast. Execute the mission and pack up equally as fast.

Another example (this one from the real world). We have a water quality monitoring setup stationed at a water treatment plant as part of some project works my employer is undertaking. We use a SCADA system to monitor and control various pumps and other attached water quality control devices at the plant.

The network connection is pretty ordinary out there, which means we frequently lose data in transit, which (due to the setup out there) we cannot retrieve. This means we could get a spike in ammonia levels that we may be unaware of (very bad if you're discharging into the river system). We have solutions in place to prevent this currently, however if the data connection was any worse or if the scale/requirements at the plant were any different, then this product would be ideal to setup locally and provide the SCADA control and monitoring services (we couldn't setup a standard server out there and the temporary nature of the plant wouldn't be ideal). This way if connection is interrupted we wouldn't lose data and automated control messages could still be sent.

I'm sure this device would cost a whole lot less than installing a microwave link to the plant to overcome the network connectivity issues.

Without adding more memory slots, it's limited.

When it comes to desktop cpu, why not adding more memory slots?

8GB Ram is enough might be right for a general purpose laptop, and more than that might have no way to be utilized; but, when coming into 64-bit and "mobile workstation" level, boosting the ram has been always the cheapest yet best way for performance. Not only more ram for running programs, but for software based ram disk, which can be then used as a caching space(for temp files or even with combination of iSRT), or just a fast drive where heavy save/load files can be placed.

Overall, "meaningless" for adding more cpu performance with great temperature compromise, while the max memory is still limited to 32GB. Not worth the money compared to general high-end i7 laptop.

"I go fast!1!11!1!"
I could see small businesses buying this instead of racks or towers. If they have five computers on site, this laptop/workstation is more than capable of serving them. It could also server as a terminal for a rack or tower if they need to expand in the future in addition to serving.
