AMD to Launch FX-9590 Refresh Package

AMD is preparing a new retail package of its feisty FX-9590 eight-core processor, in a bid to woo crowds away from Intel's Core i7-4790K "Devil's Canyon" processor. The package combines an FX-9590, which till now was sold chip-only (without a cooling solution), with an Asetek-made liquid CPU cooler, for US $359. Given that without the cooler, the FX-9590 costs $319, the extra $40 for a liquid cooler adds great value. Based on the 32 nm "Vishera" silicon, the FX-9590 features eight CPU cores based on the "Piledriver" micro-architecture, clocked at 4.70 GHz, with Turbo Core speeds of 5.00 GHz; a dual-channel DDR3 integrated memory controller that natively supports DDR3-1866 MHz, 8 MB of total L2 cache, 8 MB of L3 cache; and modern instruction sets such as AVX, AES, FMA3, etc.

AM3+ is dead socket like I said previously.

Also AMD, for great value I will stick with the 8320 and overclock it for 100$.

At least the cooler isn't expensive, so if somebody is going to buy one of these toasters, then it's not a bad deal. Just wondering that how could a cheap AIO keep a 220W TDP chip without the liquid boiling :D

But I'm pretty sure that the bundled cooler's fan(s) is(/are) a similar turbine like in FX-8150 bundle..

You want to refresh it AMD make it so it uses less power duh otherwise this makes no sense just adding a AIO WC is not a refresh

Because that's how the system of capitalist consumers works. You say that it is like this because nothing better is invented but the truth is that human race is at that primitive level of its development to accept this system at this present moment only.

AMD is just doing the same as their competition.

Let's better support AMD and give them your damn money!

Its all about how you read it...... its like some one coming into your home, going into your closet, selecting one of your outfits, gift wrapping it, and giving it to you....... just because they care so much about you.......

4.5Ghz on air can't go wrong! Unless of course you couldn't get that much of an OC or didn't turn off LLC. Then, yeah...guess you weren't so lucky.

Hmm, nobody was crying when Intel rebadged their year old stuff and sold it as a "refresh"...

....because actual changes were made earning the title refresh ...you know tick tock. This wouldve worked better if Amd have at least improve temps or made 5ghz the base clock or include like a hundred game bundle or something

Intel: Look, we have a refreshed CPU.
AMD: Look, we made our box prettier.

No wonder Intel is doing better... I'm really starting to get tired of all of this PR without any substantive changes or improvements. Come on, AMD, spend you money elsewhere...

You could argue that they're spending their money elsewhere. Hence why the box is prettier because the resources are being diverted elsewhere.

Not many 8320s can reach 5GHz consistently. You'd need a decent cooler, motherboard, RAM chip and OC'ing expertise to pull that gamble off.

5GHz out the box no fiddling, with a bundled liquid cooling system. This CPU does have its place.

AquinusIntel: Look, we stock max-overclocked our same cpu, gave it some enthusiast-friendly bullet points without really tangibly improving anything, and are selling it for same monies.
AMD: Look, we already did that...and new non-APUs ain't coming for a while, so we'll give you the mass order price on a cooler you'll actually use.
FTFY. I'm not saying the situation is ideal for AMD, it's surely not, especially when DC is basically Intel's 9590 (and that surely sucks for AMD). But when you look at them comparably to their predecessors, and what you're tangibly getting in these new products, I would argue AMD did more for the enthusiast than Intel.

I can overclock a 4770k. I can't overclock a stock cooler into something worth a damn. When you take out the retail price of the cooler (from the bundled price), it's really not that terrible of a deal. Adversely, if you add the price of that (or some kind of enthusiast cooler you'd actually end up buying) to Intel's price, it starts getting a little spendy for a consumer platform that will be outdated (in Intel's eyes) in a year (or at most two).

Wish it were slightly cheaper (DC vs 9590 w/aio at same price or lower would be at least an interesting discussion), but what can they do? They have to make some kind of margin on their super-binned parts.

well technically it's not a refresh like intel's tick-tock. This is just the same processor slapped inside a newly designed box +AIO cooler and there's nothing wrong to this move IMO. But is the teasing really necessary? Hey I took it with a bag of salt. I learned my lesson after Bulldozer's launch. But I'm still human :( and I prefer AMD :(. Some part of my brain thinks it could be the much awaited steamroller or a 28nm piledriver. That's just cruel AMD, so cruel :(

Biggest anti climax in the tech year!

Was planning on buying this for a fresh AMD system, but guess I'll keep my nice loop and get a 8320 or something.

P.s DC was a refresh, or at least a marginal improvement for overcooking standards. They had to for the K sake!

That is ridiculous. Intel just relaunched its already 1-year-old piece of junk and you all jump around it like small kids...

As I said, give AMD your damn money and they will have the financial resources to move onto new manufacturing processes. God damn it!

4790K is nothing more than the SAME 4770K factory OCed with better thermal paste. The fact the the thermal paste lowers the cpu's temps doesn't mean that the cpu is something new. The fact that the cpu is running at higher stock speed it doesn't make it something new because the TDP is also higher. It's not a refresh as most of you say, except if you are willing to accept marketing stuff from Intel without question, when on the other hand you can find all the right arguments to point that the new AMD is in fact the old AMD with a new box.

Well now I'm just gonna go buy an FX4350(it clocks sooo high and I don't really need that many cores on my secondary rig) like I wanted to in the first place. If this had been a some how improved 8 core FX I would be all over it but no AMD just releases another FX9590 with the SAME CLOCKS no less.
