Blockbuster offers free movie rentals to Netflix customers

Any Netflix customers that brings their tear-off flaps from Netflix envelopes will get to rent a movie for absolutely free. The Blockbuster promotion will end on December 21st. Steve Swasey, a spokesperson for Netflix has a very interesting response.
I think most folks know that if you get something free you're getting what you pay for...The very reason for online DVD rental is that you don't have to go to the store. It's the convenience, selection and value.
Blockbuster is probably doing this to promote it's new "Total Access" feature, which allows people to exchange DVD's received in the mail for DVD's in a Blockbuster store.

Odd

Interesting and odd thing they are doing. I mean, would netflix get mad if I rented a DVD from them, took it to blockbuster and traded it for another movie I wanted to see? I mean, would Blockbuster video keep the DVD and when I bring theirs back, give it back to me or just keep it? ::ponders::

It's not like that Wareagle, there is a flap that you tear off from the envolope and throw away. That is what Blockbuster want's, not the DVD itself.

You wouldn't know unless you subscribe to netflix, no need to feel stupid. I personally think it's a waste of paper when they do that.

I wonder what they think is going to be accomplished with this? I'll go get my free movies, then continue using Netflix. I tried both online services, and prefer Netflix for their better selection.

Blockbuster will ruin Netflix with their total access, I have yet to not find a movie from blockbuster on line. Now I get double the movies if I decide to walk in and trade them for in store movies. And you can keep the in store movies and they will still send your online movies. Right now I have a pile of six dvds 3 from online and 3 from instore.

But I do wonder how they will make money from this? I mean with a month free then another 2 weeks free with total access, I feel like I am ripping them off at less than 20 bucks a month that I have yet to be charged.

I assume that you don't rent many series discs. Many of the series that I tried to rent from Blockbuster were incomplete. Especially anime titles.

for non-mainstream titles, Netflix is the best and only option. If they only had Porn!
