PowerColor to Release Passive X1950 Series Video Cards

PowerColor is going to release X1950 PRO and XT cards with passive cooling solutions from Arctic Cooling. Both cards will be priced about USD$10 above the existing ones. This new passive cooler sports 4 heat-pipes and there are some special heat sinks to cool down the hot voltage regulators. The new passive cooler runs even cooler than the stock cooling on the X1950 PRO; 63C compared to 67C. The passive cooled PowerColor X1950 series video cards will be available in Q1 2007.

Very nice if you're main aim is a silent PC, but obviously not good for us overclockers. That is quite impressive, but obviously a heatsink with performance like that coupled with a decent fan should be better in theoy. I bet that thing weighs a ton from looking at its size.

hmm, the cooler looks huge indeed, but its construction seems very lightweight... it also looks like it would have enough area to carry a 120mm fan (for "us oc´ers" ;) ).

its 4C cooler than the stock SINGLE slot cooler that comes on the X1950pro, but how much cooler than the stock dual slot cooler

That is sweet!!! Now we can either run it dead silent, or simply buy a fan for it and overclock it.

That 4 C doesnt warrant a $10 dollar bump up the price chain. I know AC makes good cooling stuff, but I just dont think it warrants the upgrade. Ultimately, these would be nice for a HTPC but not for normal gamers (small ocers :)

PS I realize that with AC offering the cooling, they had to charge the premium.
