Vista Needs DirectX 9

Although most games work ok with DirectX 10, which comes built into Windows Vista, some games such as Medieval 2: Total War and Company of Heroes may not work correctly and you're likely to see errors about missing DLLs. If you have these problems (and even if you don't you should still consider it) you should install DirectX 9 on Vista by downloading it from here. This seems to be a problem with the backwards compatibility in DirectX 10 but installing DirectX 9 should solve any problems without causing any new conflicts.

Yup, good advice, was the first thing i did, since Eve-online winged about no dx9

and dx9 and dx10 are installable side by side with zero problems

So, how is the Vista or Game behaviour?
Does it force applications to use DX10 and if that doesn't work fall back to DX9?

Wow, yet another problem. I hope the SP2 or whatever addresses alot of these issues.

I don't really see the point of buying a new OS when half of your programs and applications are really buggy. And Microsoft why delay Vista for so long, saying you want it to be perfect and then release the way you did? For shame!

Vista is fine... with good drivers. The OS came out almost yesterday, nothing new is perfect. It has flaws. Everything does, XP does.

ok just a quick FYI , dx10 is totaly incompatable with past versions of dx, the version of 9 thats built into vista needs updated for some current games this isnt anything really shocking, ms rushed vista out and spent way to much time on the DRM and not enought on the CORE OS.

read up, dx10 is TOTALY INCOMPATABLE WITH ANY OLDER VERSION OF DX dx9L is there to run older games, you need to update it tho because ms didnt get the latest version on the disk(morons)

Far better? Not on my PC. XP is a bit better yes, but not by much.
