ASUSTOR Announces Flashstor 6 and Flashstor 12 Pro SSD NAS

ASUSTOR Inc. today launched two of its fastest NAS devices ever, the all-NVMe Flashstor 6 and Flashstor 12 Pro. The biggest feature of the Flashstor series NAS is that this is ASUSTOR's first dedicated PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe SSD NAS, which brings unmatched performance in a NAS device. The Flashstor 6 has six M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs and dual 2.5GbE for amazing performance while the Flashstor 12 Pro comes with twelve M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs combined with 10GbE for unmatched speed. Both Flashstor models are equipped with Intel's newest generation of 10 nm Quad-Core Intel Celeron N5105 that boosts up to 2.9 GHz. With 4 GB of energy-efficient DDR4 -2933 RAM that provides 40% more efficiency and dual USB 3.2 Gen 2x1, the Flashstor ensures that bottlenecks are a thing of the past.

The advantages of the Flashstor include, but are not limited to, are its low weight to be used as portable storage while efficiently cooled and quiet. The Flashstor series is specifically designed M.2 SSDs and the chassis makes it easy to add or remove SSDs by removing the chassis screws. The design of the Flashstor not only makes it look great in any environment, but also contains efficient hardware that ensures it can chew through virtually any storage or editing workload thrown at it while keeping hardware and SSDs cool. For extra cooling, the Flashstor comes with heatsinks to help more powerful SSDs to receive the cooling they need for optimal performance while remaining quiet at as low as 18.7 decibels. This ensures that content creation and consumption is enjoyed without interference.
In addition to performance and design, the Flashstor series is also equipped with S/PDIF and 4K60-capable HDMI as specified in the HDMI 2.0 spec for clear and lossless content consumption. When playing back 4K, the Flashstor supports hardware transcoding, resulting in smooth 4K video. The Flashstor series is not only the center of your media universe, but also one of the fastest ASUSTOR NAS devices available with 2.5GbE in the Flashstor 6 while the Flashstor 12 Pro comes with 10-Gigabit Ethernet ensuring maximum speed. The Flashstor 6 provides up to 590 MB/s of read performance and 590 MB/s of write performance in SMB Multichannel while the Flashstor 12 Pro gives up to 1181 of read performance and 1027 MB/s of write performance respectively. Hard drives are not disallowed on the Flashstor. Simply connect an AS6004U to use hard drives for easy lower-speed capacity and archive data with MyArchive to be ready for any storage need.

The Flashstor series is equipped with ADM 4.2. ADM 4.2 brings in numerous security fixes to keep data more protected than ever while also incorporating security features that include, but is not limited to the improved Dr. ASUSTOR. Dr. ASUSTOR helps effectively reduce information security risks and the possibility of being attacked by malicious software by guiding users in the right direction to keep data secure. Not only does ADM 4.2 bring numerous security fixes, but a number of quality-of-life updates and feature updates as well. Take advantage of ADM 4.2's new two-way share links that allow uploading and downloading from Share Links, automatic MyArchive mounting and dismounting when backing up, certificate updates, DNS Challenge support and a WireGuard VPN client. ADM continues its tradition of providing more than two hundred apps that cover everything from home entertainment to office applications for a stable and custom storage environment that is efficient and holistic.

The Flashstor 6 and Flashstor 12 Pro come with an MSRP of $449 and $799 respectively.

AleksandarKSo a PCIe switch is likely present?
In which case it wont be cheap.

It's about time someone made FLASH ready NASs. The thing is, why M.2? When your connection is ethernet, even 10GBe, networking will always bee the limiting factor. Two MX500 sata drives will saturate that bus. Personally I'd rather this have 2.5" bays to use cheaper sata SSDs, like the synology slim. Unlike synology though, ASUStor is willing to give us that sweet multi gig goodness.

Also, this is bugging me. If you are going to rip off the look of a PS4, why on earth would you put all the ports on the SIDE, and not the back? That is going to look so goofy.

It wont need to be the latest and greatest though. They can use outdated and cheaper switch tech, since a single one of these drives on a x1 bus will saturate the network connection on its own.

On the lower end one it might not even be necessary, I would be surprised if any ssd is wired for more than pcie 1x or 2x.

If one lane per ssd and one per ethernet port it could work without pcie switch (lower end). There no bandwidth lost since it's restricted by network anyway.
And the higher end can use a small pcie switch of 12 lanes (asm2812 like in the qnap QDA-U2MP) and it would be ok I guess.

What you are looking for is QNAP 2.5" NAS(hopefully it gets updated soon with faster NICs).

Small reminder that even one of the NVMe drives will severely out-speed the 10 GbE interface (1150 MBytes/sec).
What a waste of nvm slots.

Yes, much like the synology unit it is restrcted to ancient gigabit ethernet.

Just take that QNAP NAS, put a 10g port on it, and I'd happily buy it.
