Intel Announces New Desktop And Extreme Mobile CPUs

Intel today announced the Core 2 Extreme X7800, its first laptop CPU under the Extreme Edition brand. In addition to bringing its "Extreme" high-end CPU brand to laptops, Intel also announced a handful of new desktop dual and quad chips today.
The X7800 dual-core mobile processor runs at 2.6 GHz and features 4MB of L2 cache and an 800MHz front-side bus thus making it the fastest CPU in Intel's mobile lineup. The good news for gamers is that the overspeed protection has been removed so the overclocking potential of the cpu should be enormous.

Core 2 Extreme X7800 also has power-saving features using a dynamic front-side bus, which lets the system drop into a "low-frequency mode" to conserve energy, and Enhanced Deep Sleep, which uses low power when the system is in idle mode.
Another feature, Advanced Media Boost provides a performance boost for video editing as long as video playback.
Intel claims that the Core 2 Extreme X7800 boosts a 28 percent performance increase over the Core Duo T2600 and it costs at around 850$.

Intel also announced its new line of Desktop Processors.
Core 2 Extreme QX6850 is a 3.0GHz cpu with a new 1,333MHz front side bus. Next are the Core 2 Duo E6850 at 3.0 GHz , the Core 2 Duo E6750 at 2.6 GHz and the Core 2 Duo E6550 at 2.33 GHz. All three models use the same 1,333MHz front side bus as the QX6850.
A new 1,066MHz front side bus Core 2 Quad chip makes its debut as well. The Q6700 will sell with a clock speed of 2.66GHz for $530.
