VIA Reveals 1-Watt x86 CPU
VIA has announced a 1-watt x86 CPU, calling it the most energy efficient x86 processor in the world. The chip runs at 500 MHz and can do so without any active cooling. During its idle state it consumes a mere 0.1 watts. The VIA Eden ULV will be mainly targeted towards industrial, commercial and ultra mobile uses and is expected to show up in embedded systems. The tiny CPU measures only 21mm x 21mm.

It's the future of all server based enterprises IMO. Where I work we use servers with quad arrays of 64-bit dual-core opterons and 16+ GB RAM for our testing environments. So you can have 6 test servers on just one box, works pretty nice :rockout:
As I was leaving there was talk of putting together a single machine that was dedicated for nothing other than running the virtual backups. 16 cores at 500MHz drawing only 0.1w when idle would probably have been more than welcomed to fill the role.
Sorry, boxx only made an 800core computer.
The possibilites of this chip seem endless and so do the uses. Id like this in my cell phone I have now and my remote control, cordless phone, etc...
Imagine having 4 of these on one mobo, 2ghs and only 4watts!!!
