Kinc and Shamino Break the 3D Mark 2006 World Record - Score 27,039 Points

After being robbed during the Games Convention, Kinc and Shamino have returned to their everyday life and started benching again with Mushkin, ATI and ASUS. The result is another broken world record. Kinc and Shamino are back to the top of the 3DMark 06 Hall of Fame with a personal record of 27,039 3D marks achieved with Shamino's QX6850 at 5119MHz(3DMark stable) on an ASUS Blitz Extreme, Mushkin's new DDR3-1333 memories and a pair of ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT video cards overclocked to 1175/950MHz. The processor and the video cards were cooled by Shamino's Dragonpot, which in other terms mean liquid nitrogen. Here's the Futuremark ORB verification link.

yogurt_21wow thats a baseless remark, why sure ati optimised the 2900's for 3dmark and yet in the open of the firefly forest test in both 05 and 06 I get 0fps for about 3 second, then it jumps to 50. :wtf: and the canyon test is all jittery with jumpinf framrates.:wtf:

but sure the drivers are totally optimised for 3dmark. lol

don't go making speculations on things you know nothing of. I mean seriously I hate sounding like a boiken record, but it seems I have to repeat the above statement daily in threads. This forum is seeming to grow more towards baseless speculation and further and further from FACTS!
i get that stuttering for 3-4 seconds too with my 2900, i can bet it hurts our final scores :(

Wile EJust a fyi, those are TPU's numbers from W1z's review after the NDA was lifted. That's also on launch drivers.

But still, I disagree with Kenny. I have first hand experience with the card. I bought mine the day it launched, and my 3DMark scores have improved with new drivers.
Why is is when peeps want to bash the 2900, they go way back to its release drivers? i mean cmon, they SUCKED MAN ARSE. now with better drivers performance is just not comparable to its release

KennyT772Well when I read countless reports of compeditive scores on 3dmark with the 8800's while in actual game play the cards were not even close.

Go ahead and call me on it but you all know the 2900's were nothing what we expected them to be. We all know that when they were first released 3dmark was on par with the gtx's. For the most part gaming was on par with the gts's.

Also in my post I said much, of course performance is going to improve over time, but it sure as hell hasn't scaled the same as gaming performance since release.

At launch ATI only had 3dmark and a couple games optimized, mainly oblivion and other new games. At that same time nVidia had time to optimize everything, because they too at launch only had half the driver optimized. I'm not saying your card is crap and the 8800's are better just that the drivers were crap at launch and have developed greatly in gaming since then. I just find it very odd that a card is on par for records with another in only one set of programs so far, I haven't heard of any 2900's out pacing gtx's yet.
Well if you want the truth of it... How about the fact that most "games" are actually built for Nvidia cards, rather than ati cards... Now how does that tickle your tummy...

Anyways that very well points out the early stages of large differences in performance shown in application use. Also remember that Nvidia received the DX10 SDK far before ATI did, so they were playing catchup. The 2900xt's will really start to show their power over the next few months and it would surprise me one bit if they were just across the board stomping the Ultra's flat out.

Not that I'm a fan boy or anything, but this is the truth of the matter.

These cards are DX10 cards. They have only been benched thus far on DX9.

THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT! Jesus Christ. Back at release the cards weren't on par with the gtx's in anything but 3dmark, that sure as hell wasn't an accident. I'm not bashing the 2900, just saying the drivers have come a long way from a sketchy start.

At launch ATI didn't have the time to make every game run its best, now they do. How is that bashing? All I'm saying is that ATI put more time into improving 3dmark scores than they did on FarCry or some older or not as well known games. nVidia did the same thing at launch too.

As for the "runs best on nVidia" thats just nVid throwing money at the company to put their logo (advertising) and putting in a few optimizations. ATI has done it in Half Life 2 for example, I'm sure theres more.

Why are you 2900 guys so defensive these days?

P.S. Not recognizing TPU's own charts should be an insult to yourself.

not a suicide-bomber
black and white also has it, but it really doesn't matter, ati on the begin started optimizingg drivers for benchs, then they optimized the games
but why discuss about it?

no you misunderstand, refering back to benchies done while drivers were new is an insult tot he 2900, i get that your pointing that fact out, but we also must take the tpu benchies as that, early release benchies, things have moved along wonderfully from then :)

good record, just makes me lol though when an nvidia card does well in 3dmarks its driver optimisations but when the 2900xt does well ati is king of the hill :slap: enough of the fan boyism please we all know nvidia is the top dog for now same as intel is pwning amd, doesnt mean its the be all and end all but just for now it is ;)

Did the Robbers take the 8800 gear?

What happened in the robbery?

Clearly, the Robber(s) must have had taste, to take the 8800 gear and leave that low class ATI hardware behind!!! :nutkick:

Well we did talk to Shamino (he and a few other guys and I took the train back home) and while there were a lot of items gone, the stuff they were benching with was kept at the Mushkin booth. The CPU used for the record came from Shamino's collection, which was not stolen AFAIK, as it was not in the car. The board was prepared as well, with additional capacitors around the CPU and the two PCIe x16 slots.

cheers

Well the robbers smashed the rear window of VW station wagon (brand new one, alarm did not go off for some reason) and just grabbed everything. Only the navi system was in the middle arm rest, so the robbers did not check there.

How can you claim nVidia is top dog, when a cheaper pair of cards is beating them?
