Microsoft and Toshiba May Create HD-DVD Xbox360

Microsoft recently aspired to steal some of the Nintendo Wii's thunder by creating a low cost counterpart of their console with the Xbox 360 Arcade, and Sony quickly followed suit with the 40GB PS3. However, Microsoft may be working on another version of the Xbox360: one with an HD-DVD player built in. If this is true, and Microsoft does release an HD-DVD Xbox360, then Toshiba will officially be getting paid by two console manufacturers: Sony will pay Toshiba for the Cell, and Microsoft will pay for the HD-DVD player. This rumored HD-DVD Xbox360 may also bring new features to the table, such as a larger hard drive, an HDTV tuner, and a "port for MP3 players".

it doesn't matter how many boxes there as long as they all play the same games.

It's fine by me, as long as they don't make the HD-DVD a standard to play games...

Anyways, isn't the Arcade supposed to "replace" the Core?

My guess is that if they release this that they might replace the current Elite model with this HD-DVD console for the same price. Though its too hard to tell right now, though that would seem to fall nicely right in line with pricing strategies.

The Halo 3 Edition is the exact same console as the Premium Version, besides the color.

Again, I like this move as long as HD-DVD won't be "required" to play Xbox 360 games.

I agree, now that would be :shadedshu. I prefer to have the games on DL discs or multiple discs ;)

If they do make games for HD-DVD, I guess that would be okay but then they should also support ones that don't have it, like you said, with Multiple Discs...but I think that would be too much of a hassle for MS.

It would m8. But we all cant afford to buy another HD system can we :( Hopefully they will see sense and continue with single DL discs and multi-disc games (like Blue Dragon on 3x discs) :D

Something they should have done in the first place if you ask me. Then you can have games on either standard DVDs or on the HD_DVD interface, with tons of extras and all that.

I know the external HD-DVD drive can not be used for games.
So I hope - for the x360 buyers - HD-DVD can be used for games with the internal drive like BD can be used for games in the PS3.

Arcarde (formerly Core) version is a joke anyway, no one right in his mind would buy that one, no HDD, what's the point?

M$ will ALWAYS be the thing that makes the world go round. But, is Toshiba going to be the next Sony? That is the question that people need to think of?

I hope this makes MS lower the price of the HD-DVD drive add on for the old models, I've been waiting for the price of it to go down to grab one :p

The price for the external HD-DVD will become cheaper. It takes time to build the new HD 360, so you'll be looking at a price cut just because, then maybe at another one when it drops. Hopefully a hundred dollars when it comes out.

Well its about time. I'll buy one of those just for the hd dvd player built in. Granted it will still be made like crap. Hopefully by then it will have a 45nm processor in it. I'm currently pissed with the microsoft corporation for the xbox. I sent mine in for a faulty dvd drive..it was scratching my discs. Mind you..this is a system that was thoroughly burned in for 6 months and was played for about 2-6 hours a day. They just gave me a new box (new serial number)...one week later the new one got the three red lights. Wish those SOB's just gave me back my old box with a new drive.

It's already really low compared to stand-alone players, and with King Kong in HD and 5 Free HD-DVD Movies after MIR, what else?
