All Xbox 360 Prices Slashed on March 14th?

A number of industry sources have indicated that Microsoft is due to cut the price of all Xbox 360 SKUs in Europe. According to TechRadar backed up by numerous UK retailers, the price of every Xbox 360 SKU is to be slashed by as much as €50 on March 14th across Europe. If true, the Arcade Xbox 360 will retail for around GBP 150 in the UK - cheaper than Nintendo's Wii console - the Elite will sell below GBP 240 and the Premium at just under GBP 200. Microsoft of course declined to comment on the story before press time, as expected.

The consoles been out for almost three years, I'd be surprised if they didn't lower the price after all this time. The majority of Xbox's revenue comes from game purchases and recently they are making a profit on the consoles. The format war doesn't influence Microsoft's decisions as they are in the "gaming" business not the "movie" production business.

Sony can keep blue-ray because it isn't selling their consoles or their games, look at it from Microsoft's and Nintendo's perspective, as long as they win the console war who cares about the format war.

true, Xbox games wont come on blueray so who cares lol. Also the BlueRay and HD-DVD players are to damn expensive right now for most of us, and if you buy a console it should be about the games not what movies you wanna watch

No the quality on the PS3 blu-ray is equal to standalone. No difference. Furthermore, PS3 has the ability to recieve firmware updates. The PS3 is pretty much the best blu-ray player, for the average consumer, right now.

Good to hear the xbox prices dropped.

Probably, a price slash was already rumored on many forums anyway. Can't say for sure.

Current events anyone???

The price drop has nothing to do with HD-DVD or BluRay. The HD drive was a separate add-on anyway. In case you haven't noticed, the US dollar is tanking while the Euro and British Pound are doing well. Microsoft still gets to pay the same US$ amount for each box manufactured even while the value tumbles, essentially paying less for each box. As the BP gains value, Microsoft makes more and more for every box sold in the UK. Other companies are starting to adjust prices as a result of this. Canadians are suing GM and other automakers because of this very issue. As the Canadian dollar gains value, their prices have not adjusted, and therefore cars are costing Canadians more. It's the same reason gas is on the rise in the US, and anything imported is beginning to cost more.

I don't know if you have been following the yen either, but the yen is gaining a lot of value and is becoming a strong currency. While the US dollar continues to tank I get more and more frustrated.

Hopefully this will lead to a price drop in the US too. I already have a 360 but this will probably lead to a Wii price drop and I have been wanting to get one.
