Silicon-Power, the leading brand in Flash Memory Manufacturers, presents its first 128GB Solid State Disk. Silicon-Power's SSD comes in a standard 2.5-inch size and ships with SATA or PATA interface which can easily fit for PCs, notebooks or other mobile devices. It has built-in Error Correction Code (ECC) and guarantees higher data transfer rate and system operation efficiency than traditional hard drives. Silicon-Power's 2.5-inch SATA / IDE SSD is also perfectly shockproof, vibration and noise free, because there're no moving parts in it. Winslow also suggested that SSD prices, which are currently very high when compared with traditional hard drives, would soon dramatically drop. "Price declines are historically 40 percent per year," he said. "And, in 2009, [there will be] a 50 percent reduction, then again in 2010." He also suggested that SSDs would play a big role as "performance accelerators" in the server market.

Im looking forward to SSD drives that arent plauged by short lifespans due to multiple read / write operations and hopefully soon, faster speeds... at the moment the speeds are crap... marginally better than raid 0 sata HDD's in some cases

well you can get 32gb & 64gb SSD drives for around £300... so more realisticly theyll be around that and more for the 128... and to be honest they (currently) actually not fast atall... they just have sustained speed....

The IDE... whoever has an IDE compatible mobo would not even spend the cash on a 128 gb drive.

I wonder would Vista work nicely on a SSD. It tends to scratch thru hard drive very often, SSDs have much lower access times. :confused:

servers, laptops... more laptops :P

This is good to be honest, i remember reading a news article (from samsung?) saying they expected size to double every year. we're well past that, and in 6 months i've seen 8GB up to 128GB on sale here in aus (assuming this will be out soon)

Info on the price drops is great too, means SSD's should be good prices within 2 years.

shockproof is because its got no moving parts, which is a massive bonus for laptops and MP3 players.
