New Gun in Browser Town, Plans to Take on IE, Firefox

While Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) still dominates the web-browser market and Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera among others catching up, a new browser is taking shape at a global level (read stable English version) called Sleipnir. This browser originates from Japan, made by Yasuyuki Kashiwagi that leads the company Fenrir Inc. This browser is popular among Japanese technophiles. The browser uses two rendering engines, Trident and Gecko. Trident is that which drives IE while Gecko runs a host of former Netscape-derivatives such as Firefox among others. A small button at the bottom-left corner of the browser window allows user to switch the render-engines since different pages display differently depending on the browser used, a functionality already achieved by Firefox when the popular add-on 'IE-tabs' is installed.

At this point the makers of this browser hope to capture at least 5% of the browser market share which looks steep but since Firefox was written off in the same way, who knows? Just that Firefox was something 'refreshing' when it came about. Following the success of Firefox, several browsers did mushroom before Sleipnir, FoxIe comes to mind, which used IE engine and a Firefox-like interface. Although Sleipnir doesn't have a rendering engine of its own, using Trident and Gecko helps with compatibility. You can visit the official website here.

Doesn't look too special at all... still it will be worth a test.

EDIT: Did I saw Proxy at the menu bar?? Perhaps it has capability to connect to a proxy by itself.

I'll try anything once. I usually use IE or Firefox, which ever my mouse pointer is closest to.

i just dont like all the setting toooooo many of them

its confusing

firefox is established and is easier to use, i never use opera or ie or safari for windows because firefox is easier to use and has all the plugins addons i would need

firefox is a hog for resources but not an issue for me

i looked interesting but not for me just yet

Well, from that screenshot I don't like the look of it. Too cluttered and as Btarunr already stated Firefox can do the dual rendering engines with the IE Tab plug-in.

QUOTE]

have you tried it without any extensions you have on? I've noticed that a lot of people complain about Firefox taking up a lot of resources, when it's really the extensions they're using -- I use Firefox as a dev environment at my job (without any extensions or themes) and even after a day's worth of browsing with dozens of tabs, it hardly uses over 90MB of RAM, no joke.

I use Opera, and it is quite easy to use, faster than Firefox, and quite customizable. It has Widgets and mouse guestures and skins and looks cool. It also has a built in bit-torrent, which works very well.
I encourage people to use Opera! I've had nothing but slowness and nuisance from Firefox.

Back on topic, this browser looks interesting only by the fact that it has two rendering engines; does this mean it takes more resources? If there is a Linux version then I'll give it a go, see how well it fares against Opera.;)
