ATI Catalyst 8.8 Released, Features and Fixes in Store

AMD released the ATI Catalyst version 8.8 drivers. This driver brings in two new features among a host of bug-fixes specific to games, performance increments as such aren't indicated.

The driver suite can be downloaded here.

The two new features include new Avivo video features such as Dynamic Gamma/Contrast correction and improved video presets for ATI accelerators, Radeon HD 3000 series and upward. Another feature addition is that of the Hybrid Graphics feature being available to users of Windows XP. This technology allows pairing of the integrated graphics processor (IGP) of the AMD 780G and 780D chipsets with a Radeon HD 2400 or Radeon HD 3400 series accelerator. For a comprehensive list of fixes, please read the Release Notes.

you know, ATI -- open up the use of that Hybrid Graphics option to users of more than just an HD 2400 or HD 3400, and it won't be so damn useless. :shadedshu

It might simply have skipped that step by accident. Always restart as windows reads driver information as it loads.

I wonder if ATi has anything special planned for v9.0. Kinda makes sence that something while not revolutionary but a bit different is done given ATi trend and doing that kinda thing every "major" release.

8.7 didn't need a restart either, atleast for me. I even installed them over 8.6 with great success. I did the same for these. Its about time these drivers reached a butter zone. Now all we need is for AMD to give us a OC/fan tool like EVGA. The world would be a much better place :D

Same here with 4850, DVI goes blank just after the load screen when vista starts.

I have tried to get crossfireX to work on both 8.6 and 8.7 with my 780G and HD2400/HD2600Pro and they all failed:wtf: I hope 8.8 will fix the problem but I won't be surprised if it doesn't work again:shadedshu

When you boot up with dvi on some screens, when the driver gets initialized in windows, the picture to the screen is lost.. So i can only use my screen with vga :\ If i uninstall all drivers, i can use windows fine, so its a driver problem.

Were you trying to enable the Hybrid Crossfire in Vista or in XP? This new driver allows it to happen in XP as well as Vista. As for the 2600pro, it won't work at all. The only compatible cards are the 2400pro/xt or the 3450/3470 in crossfire with the 3100/3200/3300 onboard chipsets.

lemonadesoda, do you have any programs running such as everest, virus scanner, or anything like that? Deffinitely create a CCC feedback form and send it to ATi, they are usually good for a response in 48 hours. :)

Thanks erocker. I tried that. To get from the first bug (cannot detect) to the second (no hardware found) required disabling McAfee.

I'll try a manual hack install of the driver files WITHOUT using the installer.
