Creative Intros HS-1100 Tournament Gaming Headset

Following Creative's announcement of its big release for this year, the Zii, the company went back to product launches of what's it's known for the most: consumer electronics. Enter HS-1100 Tournament Gaming headset. This piece will lead Creative's fleet of gaming headset.

Although the "X-Fi" term is out of its product name, the headset does incorporate native X-Fi logic. While the headset connects to the audio source using standard 3.5mm jacks, the local X-Fi logic provides X-Fi Crystalizer and VoiceFX (a voice morphing feature). This eradicates the need for any related software to be installed on the PC. The heatset features active noise cancellation to help gamers in rather noisy environments such as LAN parties and competitions. It features 40mm neodymium drivers for sharp and accurate sound effects. The HS-1100 will hit the shelves around April this year, at an expected price of over US $160.

Pfffttt, neither logitech nor creative would know a set of quality speakers/headphones if it crawled out of their own ass.
for $150, you can get a pair of alessandro ms-1 , grado sr125, akg 240S, or audio technica ad700. any of those would blow this pair out of the water, and you can get a decent clip-on mic for under $5.

If you had to choose between the alternatives you listed, what would you personally pick?
I am in the market and wanted an experienced opinion.

depends on the type of sound you like.
grados(alessandro's are grados) are generally sparkly, treble-heavy phones, while audio technica are pretty bass-heavy. akg provides a pretty balanced sound, but are still somewhat bass-heavy.
for movies and/or games, i would recommend the audio technicas. for rock, classical, jazz and the like, i would recommend the grados. for anything else, go with the akg's.

Well, I ended up getting the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's. The main reason was price. $49.95 new shipped.
I really wanted the audio technica ad700's or a set of modded equation RP21s, but I could not find as good a deal and my budget is a concern atm.
Initial impressions of theHD 280's are good, but we will see after a good break-in:toast:

congrats on your first quality cans!
now you may want to join Head-Fi and learn more about quality headphones than you would ever care to know. oh, and lose at least a few hundred dollars of your income.
i've spent $1475 on audio equipment since joining them, but i don't regret any of it. :D
