Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Calls For Unified Digital Games Store

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney recently spoke at the Coalition for App Fairness conference in Seoul where he called for a unified digital store for game platforms. Sweeney stated that Epic Games had already begun working with publishers and service providers to create this vision of a unified store where customers could be confident that their purchases would work across all platforms. The system described by Sweeney would be a radical departure from existing ecosystems such as Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo, and Epic where digital purchases are often limited to an individual companies platform.

This new system would allow games purchased from any ecosystem to be fully playable on all supported platforms without requiring multiple purchases. The success of this vision is entirely dependent on game studios signing up to the program which will likely be a hard sell given the expected fall in sales. While there are limited options currently exist for cross-buy games the movie industry has implemented a similar program with Movies Anywhere which boasts large studios such as Disney, Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros.
Tim SweeneyWhat the world really needs now is a single store that works with all platforms

Steam Sets New Concurrent User Record

Steam has recently set a new concurrent user record with 27,385,025 gamers logging in over the Thanksgiving period surpassing the previous peak of 26.9 million from April. This new record coincided with the Steam Autumn sale which saw discounts across several popular titles on the platform. The store has also seen several new popular launches in recent months such as Naraka: Bladepoint, New World, and MIR4. The most popular titles over the weekend included Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at 800,000 players, Dota 2 at 650,000, and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS with 320,000. Steam appears set to continue growing even with the increased competition from Epic and Microsoft if these recent records are anything to go by.

Sapphire GPRO X080 and X060 Mining GPUs Based on AMD RDNA2 Navi Architecture Surface

Sapphire, along with various other AIB partners from AMD, has been making graphics cards exclusively for cryptocurrency mining. With the arrival of AMD's RDNA2 generation, this has continued as well. However, the company has been doing it more quietly to avoid backslash from its customers already furious about the poor availability of graphics cards in general. Fortunately, El Chapuzas Informatico managed to get ahold of two datasheets from Sapphire that highlight features and use cases of its GPRO X080 and GPRO X060 mining graphics cards, primarily targeting Ethereum coin mining.

According to the source, the company has readied two models based on RDNA2 chipsets. That is GPRO X080 SKU based on Navi 22 with 2304 Streaming Processors, running at 2132 MHz frequency. Paired with Navi 22 GPU, 10 GB of GDDR6 memory runs at 16 Gbps speed on a 160-bit bus. This model has no display outputs, and the only connector is a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot that connects the GPU to the motherboard. Running at the default 165 Watt TGP, the card produces a 38.0 MH/s hash rate, while the optimized form of 41.6 MH/s reduces TGP to just 93 Watts.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti to Feature 21 Gbps GDDR6X Memory

NVIDIA's upcoming flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti (also known as RTX 3090 SUPER in some rumor circles); could feature the company's fastest memory solution for GeForce, according to a Uniko's Hardware report. The card maxes out not just the 384-bit bus width of the "GA102" silicon, but also uses Micron-sourced "MT61K512M32KPA-21U" GDDR6X memory chips, which are rated for 21 Gbps date-rates. This results in a roughly 7.7% increase in memory bandwidth over the RTX 3090, with a whopping 1008 GB/s on tap. The title of the highest memory bandwidth on a client-segment graphics card would still go to the Radeon VII, which uses 4096-bit HBM2 to achieve 1024 GB/s. The RTX 3090 Ti also maxes out the "GA102" silicon, by enabling all 84 streaming multiprocessors (SM).

Intel 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" Models Bound for January Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of the 12th Gen Intel Core "Alder Lake" desktop processor models that are expected to join the lineup in January 2022. Intel debuted the series with unlocked "K" and "KF" SKUs, with "locked" SKUs saved for next year. Pictured here are the Core i9-12900, the Core i5-12600, the i5-12500, and the i5-12400. The S-SPEC codes for these processors are SRL4E, SRL4F, SRL4G, and SRL4P, respectively. Our older article details their possible specifications. The lineup isn't limited to these models. Others include the Core i7-12700, and the "F" variants of many of these SKUs, which lack integrated graphics, allowing those with discrete graphics cards to save a little.

Besides these processors, Intel is expected to expand its motherboard chipset options. Currently, Z690 is the only chipset option for the LGA1700 socket. Upcoming chipset models are likely to include the H670, W680, B660, and perhaps even the H610. Intel could use platform I/O for segmentation of these chipsets, besides lack of CPU overclocking support. A big change with the 12th Gen desktop processor lineup concerns Core i5. While the i5-12600K and i5-12600KF feature 6 P-cores and 4 E-cores, the other Core i5 SKUs, including the i5-12600, lack E-cores. The source installed these processors to confirm that the i5-12600 is indeed based on the "H0" silicon and lacks E-cores.
