Kosin Demonstrates RTX 3090 Running Via Ryzen Laptop's M.2 Slot
Kosin a Chinese subsidiary of Lenovo has recently published a video showing how they modded their Ryzen notebook to run an RTX 3090 from the NVMe M.2 slot. Kosin used their Xiaoxin Air 14 laptop with a Ryzen 5 4600U processor for the demonstration. The systems internal M.2 NVMe SSD was removed and an M.2 to PCIe expansion cable was attached allowing them to connect the RTX 3090. Finally, the laptop housing was modified to allow the PCIe cable to exit the chassis and a desktop power supply was attached to the RTX 3090 for power.
The system booted and correctly detected and utilized the attached RTX 3090. The system performed admirably scoring 14,008 points in 3DMark TimeSpy, for comparison the RTX 3090 paired with a desktop Ryzen 5 3600 scores 15,552, and when paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X scores 17,935. While this is an extreme example pairing an RTX 3090 with a mid-range mobile processor it goes to show the amount of performance achievable over the NVMe M.2 connector. The x4 PCIe 3.0 link of the laptop's M.2 slot could handle a maximum of 4 GB/s, while the x16 PCIe 3.0 slot on previous generation processors offered 16 GB/s, and the new x16 PCIe 4.0 connector doubles that providing 32 GB/s of available bandwidth.

EVGA Enables Resizable BAR Support on X299, Z590, & Z490 Motherboards
EVGA has recently released new BIOS updates for their X299, Z590, and Z490 motherboards enabling support for the PCIe Resizable BAR feature. Resizable BAR is an optional feature of the PCIe specifications which allows the CPU to access more GPU memory theoretically offering greater performance. AMD released their implementation of Resizable BAR with Smart Access Memory on Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards. NVIDIA responded by announcing plans to add Resizable BAR support to their RTX 30 series graphics cards starting with the RTX 3060. This new BIOS update for recent EVGA Intel motherboards will ensure that you can take full advantage of the latest graphics cards. When we tested AMD's Smart Access Memory with the Radeon RX 6800 XT we saw an average performance improvement of 2%.

Corsair's Upcoming MP600 PRO Gen4 SSD Promises Speeds of 7 GB/s
The Corsair MP600 PRO Gen4 (CSSD-F1000GBMP600PRO) was recently spotted on Amazon Germany before being taken down. The MP600 PRO is the successors to Corsair's MP600 SSD featuring Phison's second-generation PCIe 4.0 PS5018-E18 SSD controller and boasting sequential read/write speeds of up to 7000 MB/s, and 6850 MB/s respectively. These are some very significant generational speed improvements over the already blazing fast advertised read/write speeds of the MP600 at 4950 MB/s and 4250 MB/s.
The drive is also listed as carrying a warranty of 3,600 TBW which is likely for the 2 TB model. These new second-generation PCIe 4.0 SSDs are nearing the limits of the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface which offers maximum speeds of ~8000 MB/s. It should also be noted that these performance improvements offer very limited practical benefits to the end-user in typical use-cases over a basic PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive. Pricing and availability for the drive were not published but we expect Corsair to officially announce the drive soon.

NVIDIA Expands GeForce NOW Game Streaming Service to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Australia
NVIDIA has today announced the expansion of its GeForce NOW game streaming service to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. The company has worked closely with telecommunication providers to ensure that the streaming service is working well and now they can deliver even more gamers a chance to play their favorite games in the cloud. NVIDIA stated that: "It also offers an opportunity for the world's leading telecommunications firms to deliver high-quality, low-latency PC gaming to nearly any device from the cloud. These partners form the GeForce NOW Alliance, a partnership of operators using RTX Servers and NVIDIA cloud-gaming software to expand and improve cloud gaming globally."
As a reminder, the GeForce NOW is a game streaming service that "brings real-time raytracing to today's biggest blockbusters to underpowered PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, Android and iOS devices." You can access a wide range of games from almost any device and play as much as you like.

Arctic MX-5 Thermal Compound Listed Ahead of Launch
Arctic is readying its first new high-performance thermal compound in over a decade, the MX-5. 4-gram syringes of the compound started surfacing on Amazon UK, where it's listed for £13.59 (includes UK VAT). The listing does not mention the all-important thermal conductivity or viscosity figures for the compound, but mentions that it is not metal-based (doesn't contain metal particles), is electrically non-conductive (so you can use it on bare FCBGAs/FCPGAs without an IHS) and is designed to hold integrity up to 8 years after an application. The listing mentions a "ships by" date of March 15, 2021, which is also its release date.

GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 Hall Of Fame (HOF) PCB Pictured, Features Massive VRM Configuration
GALAX is preparing to launch its flagship graphics card based on NVIDIA's Ampere lineup of GPU, specifically the GeForce RTX 3090 variant. The company is currently developing the GeForce RTX 3090 Hall Of Fame (HOF) edition GPU that is supposed to have a regular HOF treatment. That means a white aesthetics (white PCB plus white cooling solution), a massive three fan air-cooler, and of course, a PCB that is designed for extreme overclocking. Today, thanks to the sources over at VideoCardz, we have the first look at the PCB of GALAX's upcoming GeForce RTX 3090 HOF edition graphics card.
Featuring a massive VRM configuration consisting out of 26 phases, the GPU is swimming in VRM phases and it is the highest number of VRM phases we have seen on any GeForce RTX 3090 GPU. It is not exactly clear from the pictures how much of the total 26 VRMs is going to Vcore (GPU), and how much to Vmem (memory). To power the card, there are three 8-pin power connectors. It is important to note that these specifications are not finalized, as this is only a prototype. Nonetheless, the card is made with LN2 extreme overclocking and is going to probably be more expensive. There are event probes for voltage measuring directly from the card, to avoid having to do it in software. NVLINK fingers are present as well, meaning that dual-card setups are still an option with this GPU. The real product is expected to arrive sometime in February according to the source, however, we don't know the exact date or pricing.

Cougar Announces the VTK Line of Power Supplies
Cougar announced the VTK line of mainstream power supplies for gaming PCs. Available in capacities of 400 W, 450 W, 500 W, and 550 W, these PSUs feature fixed cabling, and are targeted at those building on a tight budget. All the basics are covered, including a single +12 V rail design, 80 Plus Bronze efficiency, Japanese main capacitors, PFC up to 99%, protections against over/under voltage, overload, overheat, and short-circuit; and a low-noise optimized 120 mm fan. All four models come with single 4+4 pin EPS. The 400 W and 450 W ones have single 6+2 pin PCIe power, while the 500 W and 550 W ones have two. You get up to five SATA power connectors, and a trio of 4-pin Molex. The company didn't reveal pricing, although all four models are expected to be priced well under $80.

SilverStone Intros Nightjar NJ700 Fanless PSU
SilverStone today introduced the Nightjar NJ700, a premium power supply that's completely fanless. This 700-Watt PSU boasts of Cybenetics Titanium and 80 Plus Titanium switching efficiency ratings; and on virtue of being fanless, bags Cybenetics Acoustic A++ rating. It features a single +12 V rail design, with 100% Japanese capacitors, and ±2% voltage regulation, and ripple suppression. It offers full modular cabling, with enough juice and straws for a fairly powerful gaming PC. Connectors include a 24-pin ATX, two 4+4 pin EPS, four 6+2 pin PCIe power, twelve SATA power, and a handful 4-pin Molex and Berg connectors. The PSU offers active PFC, and protection against over/under-voltage, overload, overheat, and short-circuit. The company didn't reveal pricing.
Intel "Alder Lake-S" Due for September 2021
2021 is shaping up to be a big year for Intel in the DIY desktop space, with the company preparing to launch not one, but two generations of desktop processors. Having announced them in January, the 11th Gen Core "Rocket Lake-S" desktop processors in the LGA1200 package, will release to market in March, with the company claiming a restoration in gaming performance leadership away from AMD's Ryzen 5000 series. Sources tell Uniko's Hardware that the company will announce its 12th Gen successor, the Core "Alder Lake-S" in September 2021.
"Alder Lake-S" will be Intel's first mainstream desktop processor built on its new 10 nm SuperFin silicon fabrication process. The chip is expected to be a "hybrid" processor, combining an equal number of larger "Golden Cove" cores, and smaller "Gracemont" cores, to offer significantly improved energy efficiency. Built in the new Socket LGA1700 package, "Alder Lake-S" is expected to feature more general-purpose SoC connectivity than LGA1200 chips. It will also herald new platform standards, such as DDR5 memory and possibly even mainstreaming of ATX12VO. The processor will launch alongside new Intel 600-series chipset. AMD's response is expected to be the "Zen 4" microarchitecture, a new silicon built on the 5 nm process, and the new AM5 socket that introduces DDR5 memory support.

AMD is Allegedly Preparing Navi 31 GPU with Dual 80 CU Chiplet Design
AMD is about to enter the world of chiplets with its upcoming GPUs, just like it has been doing so with the Zen generation of processors. Having launched a Radeon RX 6000 series lineup based on Navi 21 and Navi 22, the company is seemingly not stopping there. To remain competitive, it needs to be in the constant process of innovation and development, which is reportedly true once again. According to the current rumors, AMD is working on an RDNA 3 GPU design based on chiplets. The chiplet design is supposed to feature two 80 Compute Unit (CU) dies, just like the ones found inside the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card.
Having two 80 CU dies would bring the total core number to exactly 10240 cores (two times 5120 cores on Navi 21 die). Combined with the RDNA 3 architecture, which brings better perf-per-watt compared to the last generation uArch, Navi 31 GPU is going to be a compute monster. It isn't exactly clear whatever we are supposed to get this graphics card, however, it may be coming at the end of this year or the beginning of the following year 2022.

NVIDIA to Drop Max-Q and Max-P Differentiators in Mobile GPU Specifications
NVIDIA has recently introduced its 3000 series of Ampere graphics cards designed for mobile/laptop devices. And usually, these GPUs in the past few years have been divided into two configurations: Max-P and Max-Q. The Max-P variant was a maximum performance configuration meant for more power usage and higher temperatures, representing a standard GPU configuration. The Max-Q design was, according to NVIDIA, "a system-wide approach to deliver high performance in thin and light gaming laptops. Every aspect of the laptop, chip, software, PCB design, power delivery, and thermals, are optimized for power and performance." Meaning that the Max-Q variants are more TGP limited compared to the Max-P configuration.

When we originally introduced Max-Q back in 2017, the brand was initially used in GPU naming since Max-Q referred to the GPU TGP only. Today, 3rd Generation Max-Q is broader, and is a holistic set of platform technologies and design approach to building powerful and thin laptops. In addition, to be more transparent about a laptop's exact capabilities, RTX 30 Series laptops now show more information than ever, listing exact TGP, clocks and features supported. You will find this in the control panel which now reports maximum power (TGP+Boost), and support for key features including Dynamic Boost 2, WhisperMode 2, Advanced Optimus, and others, all of which fall under the Max-Q umbrella. We strongly encourage OEMs to list clocks and other technologies a laptop supports, including Advanced Optimus, Dynamic Boost 2, and more. Ultimately, like all laptop features and specs, it is up to the OEM to market what their particular laptop configuration supports.)"

Intel has today reported its Q4 2020 earnings disclosing full-year revenue with the current CEO Bob Swan, upcoming new CEO Pat Gelsinger, and Omar Ishrak, Chairman of Intel's board. During the call, company officials have talked about Intel's earnings and most importantly, addressing the current problems about the company's manufacturing part - semiconductor foundries. Incoming Intel CEO, Pat Gelsinger, has talked about the state of the 7 nm node, giving shareholders reassurance and a will to remain in such a position. He has made an argument that he has personally reviewed the progress of the "health and recovery of the 7 nm program."
The 7 nm node has been originally delayed by a full year amid the expectations, and as with the 10 nm node, we have believed that it is going to experience similar issues. However, the incoming CEO has reassured everyone that it is very much improving. The new 7 nm node is on track for 2023 delivery, when Intel is expected to compete with the 3 nm node of TSMC. Firstly, Intel will make a debut of the 7 nm node with client processors scheduled for 1H 2023 arrival, with data center models following that. The company leads have confirmed that Intel will stay true to its internal manufacturing, but have stressed that there will still be a need for some outsourcing to happen.

Raijintek Intros Eleos RBW Tower-Type CPU Cooler
Raijintek today rolled out the Eleos RBW, an entry-level tower-type CPU cooler with addressable RGB illumination. The cooler features a conventional aluminium fin-tower type heatsink. Four 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes make direct contact with the CPU at the base, conveying heat through an aluminium fin-stack, which is ventilated by a 92 mm fan. The fin-stack heatsink features a plastic top-plate with an addressable RGB LED diffuser, the ARGB illuminated fan puts out additional bling.
The included 92 mm fan features 40,000-hour rated hydraulic bearings, spins between 800 to 2,000 RPM, pushing up to 52 CFM of air-flow, 1.9 mm H₂O static pressure, with up to 22.95 dBA noise output. The cooler measures 140 mm x 96 mm x 75 mm (HxWxD), weighing 580 g. Out of the box, the cooler comes with push-clips, so you can mount the cooler onto AMD Socket AM4 without needing any tools. Other sockets supported include LGA1200, LGA115x, and LGA2066. The company didn't reveal pricing.

addlink Announces the P20 Portable SSD with USB 3.2
addlink today announced the launch of the new portable SSD that features read and write speeds up to 1,050 MB/s and 1000 MB/s via USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps). The P20 Portable SSD uses a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface with a USB Type-C connector. The maximum sequential read/write speed can reach up to 1050/1000 MB/s, which is nearly 10 times faster than traditional USB 3.2 Gen2 portable hard disk. Also, it is completely backward compatible with USB 3.1/3.0/2.0/1.1 interface.

Intel Starts Production of "Ice Lake" Xeons, Ships 11th Gen Core "Rocket Lake-S"
Intel in its FY 2020 + Q4 2020 earnings release revealed two important development milestones from its two core businesses. As part of its Q4 2020 business highlights disclosures, the company revealed that it has commenced mass-production of its next-generation Xeon Scalable "Ice Lake-SP" enterprise processors. These chips implement the "Ice Lake" microarchitecture, with "Sunny Cove" CPU cores that offer higher IPC over "Cascade Lake," and are built on the company's 10 nm silicon fabrication node. Our older article details the 10 nm "Ice Lake-SP" silicon, where each die offers up to 28 cores, and enables Intel to build processors with up to 56 cores using two such dies on multi-chip modules.

Intel Reports Fourth-Quarter and Full-Year 2020 Financial Results
Intel Corporation today reported fourth-quarter and full-year 2020 financial results. The company also announced that its board of directors approved a cash dividend increase of five percent to $1.39 per share on an annual basis. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.3475 per share on the company's common stock, which will be payable on March 1 to shareholders of record on February 7.

"Demand for the computing performance Intel delivers remains very strong and our focus on growth opportunities is paying off. Apple Reportedly Developing VR & AR Headsets For Launch in 2022 & 2023
Apple is reportedly developing an initial VR headset as a precursor to their eventual AR glasses. The upcoming VR headset will be a niche expensive product that may only be distributed through Apple's first-party stores and will cost considerably more than competing products from Oculus, Sony, and HTC. The headset will feature custom Apple silicon more powerful than their current M1 processor and include limited AR abilities. Apple had previously planned to develop a device that would harness the processing power of a user's mobile device but has since switched to a standalone solution which has increased complexity. The Apple VR headset codenamed N301 is currently in a late prototype stage and may be announced sometime in 2022, if this timeline holds then Apple may announce their AR glasses the next year in 2023.
Battlefield 6 a "Soft Reboot" with a Modern Setting, 128-player PvP and Battle Royale Modes Included
The upcoming "Battlefield 6" would mark a "soft-reboot" of the franchise in a modern-era setting; much like "Battlefield 3" was, according to Tom Henderson, a reliable source with leaks related to the franchise. He predicts that the game could even be titled simply "Battlefield" (not to be confused with "Battlefield 1"). The game (if it includes a campaign), could have a modern mechanized warfare setting, and be a marked departure from the historic (or pseudo-historic) plots of "Battlefield 1" and "Battlefield V."

Gabe Newell Confirms That Valve Has Multiple Games In Development
Gabe Newell who is currently residing in New Zealand has recently confirmed in a new interview that his company Valve "definitely has games in development that they're going to be announcing". With the positive release of Half-Life: Alyx the company plans to create further single-player games and Gabe noted that there is a lot of momentum within Valve to do so.

He has now been granted New Zealand residency in principle and is actively considering transferring Valve operations and major events to the country. This includes hosting the companies DOTA 2 and CS:GO annual esports tournaments which had to be canceled in 2020 and "strong interest" from employees for relocation.

NVIDIA RTX 2070 Modded to Support 16GB Memory
PC enthusiast VIK-on pulled off a sophisticated memory mod for the GeForce RTX 2070, doubling its memory amount to 16 GB. In a detailed video presentation (linked below), VIK-on demonstrated how he carefully removed the 8 Gb Micron-made GDDR6 memory chips of his card, with 16 Gb Samsung-made chips he bought off AliExpress for $200. Memory replacement mods are extremely difficult to pull off, as you first de-solder the existing chips using a hot air gun while keeping the contacts on the PCB intact (ensuring no pins short); and solder the replacement BGA memory chips in place.
In addition, a set of "jumpers" on the PCB need to be modified to make it recognize the Samsung memory. The resulting card booted to desktop successfully, with GPU-Z reading its full 16 GB memory size. The card successfully made it through 3DMark TimeSpy, albeit with 30% lower performance than a normal RTX 2070 (6176 points vs. ~9107 points). The card would also crash Furmark. Still, it's mighty impressive that the "TU106" recognizes 16 GB of addressable memory (which means all its memory channels are intact), without the need for any BIOS mods, which is impossible to pull off.Watch the VIK-on video presentation here.

AMD Releases Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.1.1
AMD late Thursday released the Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.1.1 beta graphics drivers. The drivers add optimization for "Hitman 3," with up to 10% performance uplift measured at 4K with an RX 6800 XT, compared to the previous 20.12.1 drivers. The new 21.1.1 drivers also add support for "Quake II RTX." A large number of issues were fixed. For starters, an issue with Radeon Software that caused recording/streaming overlay indicator to reset itself to its default position has been fixed, sometimes even after task switch, which have been fixed. The performance metrics overlay flickering on displays with HDR enabled has been fixed.
