The Intel Core i5-2557M was a mobile processor with 2 cores, launched in June 2011. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the Sandy Bridge architecture with BGA 1023. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 4 threads. Core i5-2557M has 3 MB of L3 cache and operates at 1700 MHz. Intel is building the Core i5-2557M on a 32 nm production process using 624 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Core i5-2557M, which limits its overclocking capabilities.
With a TDP of 17 W, the Core i5-2557M consumes very little energy. Intel's processor supports DDR3 memory with a dual-channel interface. This processor features the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics solution.
Hardware virtualization is available on the Core i5-2557M, which greatly improves virtual machine performance.
