Recommend me a good 120mm replacement fan for my S1283

I really cant get Q-fan to play nicely, so now its gonna be disabled permanently. Unfortunately, Asus dont have just a normal PWM fan control for the CPU fan, so I am running the fan full speed atm. Now its okay, while all my other fan are on, but I have a switch to turn every case fan in my PC off, so When I leave it on over night, I can sleep with it on.

I have heard, the stock S1283 fan, isnt that great.

So I Ideally want:

- A fan that performs better than the S1283 fan
- A fan that is near silent in operation at full speed

Failing that, I'll get something like a Zalman Fan mate 2 and set the fan speed, so I would need a fan that can perform well at a certain speed while still mainting near silence. (I.e I can leave the controller inside the case and never have to change it.

but I dont think it will work with the S1283's mounting system.

Let me know what you guys think? What are people using on their S1283's?

I like the fans that come with it so much I ordered two more, they're virtually silent and do a good job.
but then, I'm using a DFI, and it's throttling them back as necessary..
what about soundproofing etc? like those sheets you can get to cut to size?

Any 120mm fan will work with the heatsink, either by zipties or the rubber mounting doodads that come with the cooler. I'm considering using one of my Yate Loon fans on mine to see if there's a difference from the stock when I do my mobo swap.

That fan will work if you want to make it to work. Like don says. Zipties won't hurt anything and it can be done. Yate loons are good at pushing CFM's and low Db's.
I went crazy when I had my S1283(84).. I threw Kaze's and Delta's on it and It was crazy... So, I went water.. lol.
I say the Artic will be good, and if you don't want to use zips... Yate Loons

Personally I used the fan that came with my cooler for 6 months w/o issue...it was by no means a beast for airflow, but it was quiet and kept my OC'd Q6600 under 65C stress and 58C gaming/loading.

I did eventually give in and find a good deal on a bolt-thru kit so I gave it a shot, doesn't really seem all that much tighter to me, but oh well it's on there now. And I did replace the fan, with one of these:

120x38mm, it's about the size of the Xig cooler! Pumps out around 133CFM at 3000RPM. These fans are not recommended to be plugged into your motherboard headers tho, due to power consumption, so I'm using a Zalman FanMate 2 I have from an old 7700ALCu to keep it around 2100RPM, pretty quiet yet very good airflow. Did a pretty damn good job overall, and really the price of that fan was in-line with dozens of others on Newegg at the time. Also mounted using the stock rubber nubs w/o issue.

Also no need for zip ties...I have Cold Storms Kaze hanging off my 1283 right now with the supplied rubber anti-vibration fan mounts. Only fans that wont work have closed corners! (IE the Yate loons are closed corners)

These were recommended by a friend on TPU and they are really really good. I'm picky as hell and these are good. I also have the scythe fans but believe it or not these are better and silent at the middle setting and not loud at all on high.

I will go Sukon, the airflow and speed of those those are awesome at such a low price. The only downside though is that they are LOUD, if you are thinking that you'll live with it be sure to have the CosmoS with you on that. You can go higher, but the airflow is crap as well as the reliability with the rival fans. You can find these from Newegg:

If you think this is overkill, try one of these 120s from Vantec. I would recommend the Stealth series as they are fast and quiet at a silent 20dba. It is also sleek and cheap at the same time so I think you'll prefer this:

One of the best fans that I've used offering good cooling with little noise are the Scythe SFF21E or the Scythe SFF21F.

i second that. i have 12 of these bad boys and they are SICK! i wish they made a smaller one for my NB.

too bad my case can only hold one. the rest are 80

for my 80's i'll just throw it out there. getting vantec stealths. i already have 92mm vantec tornadoes strapped to the back of my case and using a fan controller to keep them VROOOM!

I couldn't agree more. All of the fans in my case are Antec Tri-Cools. Three fan speed settings if you can't handle the noise on high, but the high setting is there when you need it for benching etc. I have a couple Yate Loon high-speed fans on my radiator that like to blow without a lot of noise too.

i like their fan. something nice and quiet. doesn't look like it uses a lot of rpm but i bet the airflow is good.
