Confusing title yes, for a confusing problem. Ok I have a dilemma here which is for xmas my mum said I could have a screen for my room and I thought hmmm should I get a big ass screen but the problem is to keep it within budget it would need to be a low resolution one e.g. 1366x768 and the screen is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=AV-019-OK
(I hope it comes with the picture on the screen too :D)

Or a smaller 28" screen with a huge resolution http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-025-OK

Now my friend has the smaller one and a 4870X2 powering it while I have an 8800GT but I do plan on upgrading later on. The problem is I really wanted to know would the screen at 32" look good when playing games since its the native resolution. I know it won't be as good as it would be at 1920 x 1200 but would it be ok any thoughts ?

Also note that, I don't really buy into all this HD movies crap and wouldn't buy a screen based on this also contrast ratio's confuzzle me.

a 32" 720p will look like crap for gaming unless you're across the room. i know, i've tried with my tv. get the smaller high res one.

But will it be acceptable I mean, I'm not really looking for a superb impeccable image.

I have the Hanns G, I also have a 32 inch 13xx good quality TV, as already said, the TV looks poor until you can get around 5+ feet away from it but at any distance, IMO the HannsG looks better, I love mine!

You must have got the same one as my friend lol, I think I might go with the 32 inch because I want to be able to lie in my bed and use the pc (I can be a lazy fuck at times) and generally be able to watch telly on the freeview.

You can stick a DVB card in your puter, whichever way it will be cheaper and a MUCH better picture. Also the good thing is, like I have just done, in the future you can add a Blu Ray drive to your puter (I just got one for £60 and watch full HD movies in their glory, you certainly wont be doing that with your 32 incher :p

maybe if you mount it on ur wall and sit a bit away from it. I would go for the 28" tho... more actual screen real estate less AA in games. Maybe try it and keep the box, then take it back if you dont like it.

hmm this certainly is a hard one (just like my 32 incher ;)) I really like the hanns G one while I really like the idea of such a large screen. Goddamit why don't they just do a deal for a 42" screen at £200 with a resolution of 2560 x 1600

32" 720 vs. 28" 1200 is no contest. 28". If the other choice was like a 50" 720, the decision would be harder.

The 32" does 1080. I have my games set to 720, and it doesn't look like crap. I love the HD at that res. I play UT3 on that res, and I have a sense of awe when I play.

For me there no real choice, I'd have to go for the high res 28". If i was to go for the large screen I would always be wondering how the extra res would have been on the 28"

Not 1080P it dont, very few 32 inchers do TRUE HD at 1080P, standard res would be 13xx x 7xx????

Or 1280x720. . .

@Pepper

If you had a little bit weaker card, say maybe a 9600GSO/HD4670 etc all around that performance level, I would say the 32". Would have been able to max nearly your whole game library.

For me, I would say the 28" paired with your card would be nice.

I will be honest with you here, ever since I switched to a full HD 42" capable of 1920x1080 max res, there isnt no way in hell im going back. I've used a 32" 720p.

Well I reckon I'm going with the hanns G.
A - Its black and blue and goes nicely with my setup
B - The resolution
C - After seeing a large screen on my desk, I think a 28" is the maximum size that wouldn't look out of proportion with everything else.
D - 3ms response time
E - tits

No it wouldnt, the 50 inch at 1366 res would look aweful.

The original question is about size vs. resolution mainly for TV and games. A big screen with mediocre resolution vs. a smaller screen with great resolution can be a tough choice. But a 32" is not big compared to a 28", so it's an easy choice. If the other choice was a 50" or 65", the decision would be tougher because sometimes size does matter even with lower resolution. If adding a cheap, higher-res monitor is then needed for various things, so be it.

Lower-res BIG screens have their uses. But 32" simply isn't big compared to a 28".

Go with the 28. I ran my computer at 720P on my 32" plasma and it just doesn't look that great.

I admit not have read the replies but get the small high res screen over the larger yet low res screen.

It doesn't show in my case if I compare, but now that I've trie4d them both out I can see a big difference between my desktop's 22" 1680x1060 and my laptop's 17" 1920x1200

The laptop's like I'm watching a photo in real life. Very crisp. Very detailed. Much better than the desktop.
