4850 crossfire? Or no?

Around xmas I should have enough money for another 4850. At the moment this looks to be the best 4850 for me:

Got a nice cooler and heatsinks on everything. I was wondering if it would be worth it tho. I run Vista Ultimate x86 and have a P45 board so I would be doin 8x 2.0 crossfire. I was wondering if it would be worth it with a 19'' widescreen monitor tho.

I always say you can never have enough graphical power. Look at it this way, if you buy that second 4850, you have given yourself the option of later upgrading to a 1920x1200 monitor, without having to worry about lowering settings.

I agree, can never have too much graphic card power unless your FIT, then its pretty much never enough.

but I dunno I sometimes thing just a card with more memory would negate the aspect of crossfire.

yes they are very fast in crossfire but even with after market cooling your case will heat up like a oven. A large side case fan helps big time.

I have a side 120mm fan aimed at my 4850.. Does anyone know if anyone has this card:

I play on 1680x1050.. when I got my second 4850 the FPS became as good as if I was playing on a 800x600, 1024x728 monitor.
Your monitor is fine, you'll probably never have to worry about turning down settings and have all games maxed out even crysis. Though yeah with today's standard I'd probably invest on a 22" monitor as well though I got mine for really cheap, 200 AUD when its RRP was 285+ they discounted it because of one tiny dead pixel that no human can notice, I just got lucky but if it wasn't for the deal I'd still be playing on a 16" incher

Not all games improve with CF some lack decent profiles.

Depends on what type of games you use and the resolution at wich you play them.

I'm quite happy with a single card (4870) solution @ 1680X1050.

Thats true and not at the same time, some games won't improve most probably because you already run them at 60 frames and up. Other more system hog games which you get around 40 frames in will definitely shoot up to an extent. I haven't experienced no improvements in any of the latest games im playing currently this includes all crysis games, mass effect, fall out 3, oblivion, dead space, grid, cod4, assassin's creed, far cry 2.
So its highly unlikely for you to experience no performance gain, unless your playing WoW its the only game so far that I know doesn't utilize crossfire.

But yes if your playing 1024x768 resolution, don't even bother with crossfire and go with a decent monitor first. And in reference to older games, you wouldn't even notice a difference since a single 4850 would definitely be enough so crossfire shouldn't be discounted unless your playing games that were made a decade ago.

im quite happy with my 9800GX2, although being knocked out of the 3rd best slot by the 4850x2s arrival. I say go for it, i think that soon you will upgrade your monitor as they are going cheaper, and you wont have to worry about your video card solution.

Powercolor is allright, you can get a hold of tech support, just can't ever get the card registered, warranty is 2 years. I have the old version of the card, with stock ref cooler. 1680x1050 I guess crossfire is allright, but still anything beyond that just seems to beg for higher memory.

same is true for SLI
and next time you are gonna get a card, get a XT (x870) not a PRO(x850) (x is generation) ;P
it will last abit longer

I'd recommend another card first, then a bigger monitor. I regret buying my 24" monitor before having enough gfx power to fully back it up. Kicks ass for movies tho. lol.
