My machine never turns off....NEVER

So because of that I get crazy amounts of things open all the time.

ATM I have about 70+tabs open in firefox, and this is lite usage....

There is only a few flash movies loaded......

My hardcore use happens when I'm surfing like this. Youtube/windows media player music, 70 tabs in firefox till it locks(it won't let me right click...)So then I open IE and do it all over again.....

To top it off I'll have about 5-10 windows paints open, 5-10 windows pictures going, all sorts of folders just open(my start bar is a mess 24/7).

And this is not the top it off point yet.

I'll start COD4 and start playing with all this crap open, and alt-tab back in and out to change music on youtube or media player....

Then my son could come in so I'll just start his game while COD4 is running in the background.

At this point alt-tab is SLOW but games runs normal......

I have up to 3 games running at a time; all the time it seems......

Does anyone else stress their machine out?????

I don't even have any games open.....this is very lite from where my system normally stands....

This is why slow machines drive me crazy I think:shadedshu

I always close the firefox window. I also shut my computer down every night. Saves on the electric bill.

thats excessive - 70+ tabs? usually, ill have 3 - 5 tabs open, with itunes running and maybe something like realtemp, but i tend to close everything besides chrome when i load a game.

She gets put on standby when i go for food / to watch TV etc, but shes on for approx. 6 hours a day. Never run it 24/7, couldnt afford it electricity wise, plus the heat it produces and my tiny room make for an uncomfortable nights sleep haha.

Im sorry but you cant physically have 70+ tabs running at once and be using all of them. Thats just a silly claim really.

exactly my point haha - your not using 70 odd simultaneously - sure, you might have been on them and just not closed them, but your not using them all at once :ohwell:

Well I do and don't....I'll pull information from one here and there....when I open a new one it's always at the end....soooo I have to scroll past all of them to the end.

I could be looking at one thing, and not look at it for two days before I get back to it.

My PC is a information machine!!!

LOL

I'm telling you sometimes I have IE loaded down too!

I'm not lying about this, and I'm sure I'm not the only one........

Be glad I'm not near that computer because those tabs would disappear fast. I rarely use tabbed browsing and I get cranky when more than a dozen windows are open.

All my computers are shut down every night except for my server. The server was last restarted a week ago for an update routine. It was shut down completely several weeks ago to reapply thermal paste on the processors. Prior to that, it was months since it completely powered off and that was due to an extended power outage. Any task that needs to run through the night I try to put on my server because it will be running anyway. It is like my $3000 programmable alarm clock so it has to be running 24/7 otherwise it (and I) will miss events that need my attention. XD

LOL, holy crap man...

I run 1-2 games at once, vent, winamp, outlook, pidgin, 10-15 firefox tabs, sometimes encode a movie at the same time.

But at the end my computer gets shut down.
Also recently even turned on thermal control, C1E and speedstep, makes for a nice cool and efficient quad when only browsing the net and such.

only when gaming my cpu goes to may be 50% on both cores. if not in use all my machines goes to sleep/S3 in 15 to 20 minutes. This saves huge power. DaMulta why don't you do this? You can still resume from where u left?

My Quad only goes upto almost 100% when I start all my virtual servers (6) at the same time and after that it depends on what I do.

It doesn't matter how many tabs you open, its not going to put strain on the CPU, only on the mem usuage. If you Alt-Tab out of games the games is basically paused. Try doing this
Convert a 10+ GB AVI file to Mpeg, Do some Photo CD convertion, CD ripping, Lame Wave to MP3 and oh the nasty virus scanning, defragging HDD all at the same time and open those 70+ tabs, that will bring down any damn CPU.:D

It's like that old Nt machine that's been working for years in the back ground. And you know if it gets turned off it might now come back up. I feel the same way about my PC. So no Sleep for it at all.

The monitor does go off after an hour....

Ive had 45 windows open in Firefox, mainly from torrent sites (or empornium.us :D).

So I know what you mean and my firefox bogs down at around 20.

I haven't had a single catastrophic failure of a computer that wasn't blamed by an outside source (power surge/brownout) in over a decade and I turn all my computers off at night (less server). The only thing I recommend not doing is using sleep mode. I've replaced so many motherboards from computers that have been put to sleep that it is depressing. My brother fell victim to this not once, but twice (Compaq and Systemax) before he finally got the message not to do that.

It's like that old Nt machine that's been working for years in the back ground.
You know the old saying, "they don't build them like they used to." Anything built prior to about 2001 is like a tank compared to modern stuff. They over engineered everything because they couldn't manage to make stuff smaller like they do today.

I don't know how many times I have went to install something then on a reboot a NO-GO....

Every time you send power into your circuits when power is not there it eats it up. Then there is the heat and cold effect that goes on every time. Then with HDD every time I stop them is another time they may not start back up.

I could have a part die on my computer, and it would be just fine till I went to reboot.

I have turned my machine off one to many times to not see it come back on. Then I have to spend hours getting it back up and running...........

24/7 is the best way

Ummmm, D, they invented BOOKMARKS for an easy and convenient way to return to something you would like to continue reading or researching later. leaving 70+ tabs open is just plain stupid, man.

And don't kid yourself, it's not because you'll come back to it, it's because for some ungodly reason you're too lazy to close them. lol :nutkick:

Damn man, is your room perchance filled with all sorts of do-dads you can't bring yourself to get rid of?

I haven't had a single catastrophic failure of a computer that wasn't blamed by an outside source (power surge/brownout) in over a decade and I turn all my computers off at night (less server). The only thing I recommend not doing is using sleep mode. I've replaced so many motherboards from computers that have been put to sleep that it is depressing. My brother fell victim to this not once, but twice (Compaq and Systemax) before he finally got the message not to do that.

Hmm really? I put my computer to sleep every all the time, every night and every time I leave the house. I prefer it to a full boot. Haven't had any problems to speak of, at least that I could tell were related to that. What sort of problems do see crop up?

I keep my OS pretty spiffy, although I'm do for a re-install (been almost a year) I generally keep it up and don't run too many things at once b/c I like snappiness and when I start to get slowdown I go through and see how I can speed it back up. Generally I run a program, be it internet or something else, w/ itunes. No more than 5-6 tabs at a time in ff, ff is heavily added-on though. Games by themselves.
