Memory Usage Problem

I don't know if this is normal, my pagefile is set to 1000mb minimum and 1700 maximum.
Yet when I'm doing absolutely nothing my programs report that im using 1700mb+ up to 1800mb.
Why is this happening? Is this normal for 64bit vista?

Your Vista is using just 40% of the RAM on that screen you posted and it looks normal to me.

The system only move the data from memory to hard drive when you're out of memory.
After you used something, system cached it, and keep in the memory, and since there are no processes for them, it can not be display.
After a period of time, that you don't use the cached file, it will move to the hard drive, lil by lil, and free up your memory. But, If you ran out of memory, you will see the hard driver read really hard, that's because it's trying to dumb the cached file to hard drives.

Ahhh! Thanks grasshopper and kid, I'm newb at this stuff since I haven't actually paid attention to it til now. Must be because I was playing crysis wars before thanks guys.

that seems normal for 4GB with x64. mine is using 35% of 8gb while im not doing much, just typing this and listening to music

it shouldn't use any more when you aren't doing much but it might use more when gaming though.
