everyone in TPU should sign up, I want to see someone here win. The chances are that if most of the active users here at TPU sign up them and their family members (just as placeholders :p) we could win 1 or 2 easily, maybe more if we are lucky.

But its a 4830....

Ya I know its FREE but its the semi retarded, half brother of the 4870 and the lowest 48xx series on the totem pole. I mean unless its superior to what ya already have or are lookin to Xfire it to a 4870 -the word free is the only thing that makes this "attractive"- then I hardly call this a "win". Make the prize a 4870 or even a 4850 and I'm interested... anything else to me is "so what?" Like I said earlier.... if I did "win" this I'd either sell it for beer or for pure kicks xfire it and see what happens then compare it to another 4870 -at least- in Xfire -which is what I'd want and buy....not this- There really isnt much diff between the 4830 and 4670 performance wise anyway....and those 2 are nearly beat out by a 3870!

Sounds ungreateful I guess but handing out a few of yer cheapest -sub 100 dollars here- \ lowest end 48xx series cards isnt really very impressive in my view.... I give this 2.5 yawns out of 5.... Around Xmas one would expect an X2 4850 or 70 as a hyped up big prize

yes winning is good but

I would love to WIN though, I'd wanted to change my crappy 9600GT since I bought it :banghead:

Winning is all fine and dandy but at best this 4830 is prolly a sideways move to yer 9600.... maybe a slight step up.... but ya free is free and I suppose ya could always keep the 9600 for physx.

Still tho dont ya think the company should offer somethin a lil.....shinier... if I may.... for the amount of hype they;re generating?

No the 4870....THATS a beast.... the 4850 is a held back 4870 but for the price and its clockability is a micro beast.... this 4830 business.... a held back 4850? Come on.... milkin it a bit arent they? there was 3 3000 series cards werent there? the 3850, the 3870 and the 3870 X2 -am i missin any? -I was an nvidia fanboi before the 4000 series- Theres like 6-7 4000 series cards....yes it was a HUGE success for AMD -and that was when it was just the 4870 and the 4850...the cards that followed are only surfing the success wake the initial release brought in my opinion- but that many releases of virtually the same architecture -excluding 4870 and 4870 X2 which use ddr5- just seems like milkin it to me like i said

hey now I wasnt tossin stones

AMD milking it? Look at nvidia's line up.

Ya I know.... why do you think I defected to the red team after being green since 3DFx folded up and were bought by NVidia? I was tired of the rebadging and and generation overlap. I almost called it quits with NVidia after my Geforce 4600 Ti blew away just about anythin the FX lineup had...I could only get up to a 5700LE. I decided to wait it out since ATis 2000 series wasnt any better and was hopeful for the 6600... I wasnt let down... but the writing was on the wall for me... Nvidias days in my machine were numbered.

Took Ati till the 4870 to get me back -my 1st card ever was a Rage IIc 4 meg lol- but I had a feeling Nvidia and I would have a falling out lol

Maybe I'll go back.... we'll see what lessons have been learned in the next generation of cards each company releases

Dude I dont care if it's a 3850, if its free then I'm gonna enter to win it. Since it is a current gen card it would be a half decent upgrade for the average user.

I understand your reaction and agree that manufactures should give away more top of the line stuff for contests. But look at any marking tactics, companies always try to attract as many people as possible with the cheapest items.

Agreed. Also 250th post woohoo :toast: *imitates homer*

anyways um yea It shouldn't matter how cheap the card is...besides its a 4800 series card. all it is a detuned 4850 you have no reason to argue, if you win it and don't need it sell it or give it away. if you have another 4800 series card crossfire it. if you need an upgrade then bam, a few less bucks you get to spend a year.

Seems like AMD made the 4830 Exclusively for HTPC fans.

Seems like AMD made the 4830 Exclusively for HTPC fans.

its a good balance. decent performance in all modern games, good crossfire performance, yet low power enough to suit a HTPC. its the 'all in one' card for this generation.
